Thought I’d say hello you you fine folks over here. I got into japanese a little over a year ago. I memorized the kana, some kanji, and some grammar, but fell out of my study habit when I went to school. I have since forgotten a lot of it but I’m often surprised by what I remember (and forget). I’m studying japanese because I love to learn, and learning a language is on my bucket list. I also want to live in Japan (as I imagine many of you do) for at least a couple of years. grammar and linguistics are fascinating subjects and Japanese has one that is so different from English that I find it far more enjoyable than the other languages I’ve dabbled in (Tolkien’s “Quenya,” and French).
But when it comes down to it, expanding my knowledge is my highest passion, and expanding it into another language is extremely important. Most of the world is multilingual, and I’m not. For some reason I consider that some sort of embarrassment (even though it’s simply a product of my environment). Why then learn Japanese specifically? Why not German or Finnish? I don’t think that matters. The imporatant part is that being bilingual is something no one can EVER take away from me.
Anyways, I’m here to follow a structured set of lessons for Japanese that will hopefully keep me motivated and on track amidst my hectic life. Not sure how active I’ll be on the forums but you never know.
