I don’t know anyone Japanese, so I get no speaking practice. Could you please watch my pronunciation of あ,い,う,え,お youtube video and tell me if I need to improve (links below).

    Thanks

All are great. Maybe お sounds more like “oh” than it should, but I don’t think you will pronounce it that way when it’s a part of a word. Nice job! (^_^)b

か and こ , and everything else has to have an abrupt stop. く、き、け sound find however. otherwise, it might end up like ああ、きい、 or おお. most people who’s first language is english will keep exhaling as you say it which makes it have a relaxed sound at the end of words such as か and こ。 so when i heard it, it sounds like “kaahhhhhh” and “kOOOhhhhh”

It seems kinda silly getting pronunciation tips from other learners, no? :P The best way to work on your pronunciation is to imitate native Japanese speakers whenever you can. That’s just my feeling anyway :)

Since there is already a pronunciation thread, I thought I would ask my Q here.

I am having a hard time pronouncing 七人 as heard on the following page:
    http://www.textfugu.com/season-2/past-tense-nouns/practice/

I have looked at both the pronunciations given for 七 and 人,
    here (http://www.textfugu.com/kanji/1-2-stroke/%E4%B8%83/#top)
    and here (http://www.textfugu.com/kanji/%E4%BA%BA/#top) respectively,
but I still do not seem to understand.

Perhaps I am just missing something, but will someone please spell the pronunciation of 七人 phonetically in English?

    Thanks!

I guess what MisterM2402 is saying is true, but thought I’d put my two cents since thats the sort of thing I noticed when I heard a recording of myself speak which seems true for speakers of English and have been mistaken as a Japanese person on several occasions before.

七人 = しちにん = shi chi nin. It’s mostly recording artefacts that’s obscuring things, there.

    Thank you very much Joel!

I didn’t want to move on thinking I need a hearing aid ;)

    Cheers!
