My name is Jamel and I live in Osaka, Japan. I have lived here for about a year and a half and though I have learned some Japanese, I feel that my learning needs more structure as opposed to picking up one or two words every few days.

Sometimes I am able to understand when my Japanese friends are talking to me but most times when they speak quickly I tune them out.

I want to learn Japanese to help me become a successful business owner. I have a small business exporting used car parts from Japan. I buy from Japanese people and sell to foreigners so I would like to communicate effectively with the people I buy from and make more Japanese friends.

Nice to meet you and Happy New Year!

Aye, I have a similar problem – when people are speaking to me in Japanese, my brain just switches off.

Good luck with learning. I suspect being able to communicate would certainly help with running a business. =)

Where in Osaka? Do you have the opportunity to travel around at all?

I live in Nishi-ku. I am pretty lazy so I don’t really travel much.
