    Hey guys,

I’m just starting out and a bit of a notebook/journal junkie. I was wonder if any of you had a favorite kind of notebook or journal that you like to do exercises or take notes in?

Basically I’m asking what your study set up is materials wise – do you use a fountain pen and thick grid paper, or a pencil on a Five Star journal from Walmart?

    Any advise is appreciated.

    Thanks!

Artline pens (because the ink dries fast) on the notebooks I get from my university stationers… which apparently were made by a company called “Quill”.

But honestly, I’m not sure exactly what advice you’re expecting from us. Use what you like. =)

I write all the crucial points, vocab, particles and anything else I think I might need in a Moleskine journal. It’s nice and small so I can fit it in my back pocket on the way to uni, when I’m traveling or whenever I need to quickly reference it. It’s got a folder bit at the back as well to keep scrap bits of paper to jot down things which is nice.

I love my moleskine, it’s something I carry with me everyday. I pimped it with some safety tape so I can see it easily when I put it down on dark benches. http://postimg.org/image/pisofsjx1/

As for writing I use a pencil because I make a lot of mistakes (especially when writing down kanji).

Because I use moleskines for my sketchbook/artwork, I really enjoyed the tiny red one I used to keep my notes in from Season 1. I agree with Zach, their wonderful in their availability for color, cover weight, and size. They also are a lot more substantial and “luxurious” than, say, a fivestar.

However, I’ve found myself in love with plain “brown bag” colored spiral bound notebooks from Staples. I think they’re called 100% recycled sugarcane. I doodle the subject all over them in hand written fonts with well thought out typography and designs..I’ll put up a pic when I get a chance.

I find making it more of a journal and less of a notebook really helps me with textfugu. Even when life knocks me off my j-game (yes, I legit call it that, judge me), when I’ve made it an art project, and connected one passion to another, that investment really pushes me forward.

And in terms of pens, I just use my college girl organization arsenal: color staedtler pens, highlighers, and regular ol’ black ball point.

I think the moleskine seems really ‘luxurious’ as well. By thinking it’s luxurious it makes me write neatly and put some thought into the way it’s all set out. My photo book is the brown cardboard style you speak of as well. I love the homemade look of it. (Like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GacoqdKjVyE&feature=player_detailpage&list=TLGY_xjYLXoAQMMgF_9cDvrCfQLjWJS7Op#t=73) I didn’t use a book like that as my Japanese book as I was worried the cardboard would deteriorate from constantly having it in my pocket.

Oh yeah, that’s what I’m using – Staedtler pens. My university stopped stocking Artline.

Not a real big fan of ball-point pens (though they’re pretty much a must when you have to write on carbon paper…)

I use onenote. It’s the only program I know.

    Thanks Guys!

I was wondering since I think my usual set up is too thick to write these characters the way I want to, as they need clear definition. I was looking for inspiration from people who’ve found a setup that works for them. No judgement Callie! Whatever works, right? (I may secretly start calling it my j-game as well…secretly haha)

Wow you guys make me feel inadequate. @_@

I use Evernote for all my notes and any writing I do, I use a BiC mechanical pencil or ball point pen on a piece of printer paper…
