When we learn a noun, wouldn’t it be a good idea to also learn if it’s a -の/-な adjective or a -する verb?

    Example:
First noun I picked in Anki browser, 代用.
I looked it up on Jisho.org, it happens to also be a -の adjective and a -する verb.

Should I update my noun cards to look more like 代用(-の/-する) while I still don’t have too many of them? It seems to me like it would be a nice gain in vocabulary with a minimal amount of extra information to memorize, and I honestly can’t see how learning such things straight up would not be better than checking Jisho.org everytime you use a noun to see if it has derivatives.

    What do you think?

な-adjectives are adjectives, despite functioning as nouns in almost all respects. Not entirely sure why some are mentioned in the dictionary as being nouns as well, because I sure ain’t never seen them actually functioning as a noun. That I can think of.

Noone’s ever really explained to me what “の-adjectives” are. Near as I can tell, they’re just nouns that are used to modify other nouns more often than not.

It’s useful to know which nouns often form する verbs, though. My dictionary mentions it – it’s got a little note saying [v-s] in the parts-of-speech field. Make a note of it if you like. =)
