Ohayoo! I live in Yokosuka, Japan, but I am originally from Grand Rapids, MI. I work here for the US Navy, which is great, but being in a totally english speaking environment hinders my learning in some ways. I have been in Japan nearly one year now (May 11th). I am always looking for new resources to continue my study of Japanese, and I discovered TextFugu and so am now (obviously) giving it a try. I can already read and write Hiragana and Katakana (I don’t know what I am reading most of the time, my vocab needs work), but I was intrigued by the interesting way that Kanji is taught here and a new resaource is always good. I am also using Rosetta Stone and Pimsluer, but they are both totally different styles of learning and what I have seen so far of TextFugu’s first chapter seems to be right up my alley. I study with my girlfriend too (she’s always pointing and asking me “Are wa desu ka?”). So I am glad to be here and let’s get this adventure started!

    You a Marathon fan? =)

Kind of envious that you get to live in Japan.

@Joel, haha, yes I am a Marathon fan. And yes, it is great living here. I still have two years here in the Navy, but I will most likely be able to stay here if I want to when I transfer, and I fully intend to do so!

And, on that note, I fully intend to do so. There are definitely things that I miss from the US, like for example being able to pay my darn bills online and not at the stupid convenience store, or being able to use my credit/debit card anywhere (many, if not MOST places here are cash only). But for the most part it is great here and I have very little intention of leaving.
