Hi everyone!

I’m about to start my second attempt at learning Japanese. The first was brutally short as I tried it just after I moved out of home and started university – I just tried to take on too much all at once, and I just gave up after a week and a half.. But now that it’s a year later and i’m all settled down and comfortable, I figured it’s time to try again.

I’m just stopping by here to introduce myself (Hi, i’m Joel! Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oi Oi Oi ^_^), and give some reasons as to why I want to learn Japanese. Once these things are made public, it will just be that much harder to go back on what i’ve said.

For a start, i’ve always been quite fascinated with Japan and their culture (it’s why I started reading Tofugu.) I really want to be able to comfortable holiday in the country, and perhaps live & work there for a period.

My high school used to have Japanese exchange students, and meeting all of them was really awesome – unfortunately the school stopped this program before I actually became interested.. So i never made the most of it, and never made any attempts to learn from them.

Umm, I watch a lot of anime as well.. it’d be pretty awesome to be able to turn the subtitles off. Slightly superficial reason, but it’s pretty motivating to me personally.

And finally, i’ve always, ALWAYS wished I had learnt a second language – but my school only taught Indonesian which I really didn’t care for.

So, here’s hoping I make it through this time. I’m pretty excited!
