Hi! So, I’ve been studying Japanese on and off for a long time. I was just learning some words and grammar here and there. I even took some online classes in high school. I’m just about to get into college and I’m really excited!!! I thought I’d share with you the reason behind my desire to learn Japanese.
#1: Why am I learning Japanese?
I am learning the language simply because I love how it sounds. Also, I can really connect with the people in the country. Everyone (most people) is kind and have no problem doing what they need to in order to survive or help others. I very much enjoy their quirky fashion styles. When people say that they find the Japanese too robotic, I disagree. I think the Japanese as a whole are overly human. I want to live in Japan and discover more about its history. I’m planning on majoring in archaeology and the Ainu people do fascinate me, but there is so much more to discover about Japan.June 29, 2012 at 9:40 am #32457Hey Jessica, welcome back to studying Japanese! Good luck with your studies :)
June 29, 2012 at 9:42 am #32459Hello and welcome to TF
June 29, 2012 at 10:15 am #32461Same boat…on and off…then I got in to TF and I make sure I do something everyday. I was actually off for a couple months and kept kicking myself over what I was forgetting. Since TF tho I’ve been pretty steady if not spectacular. Wouldn’t want Koichi to get upset with me. ^_^;
Anyway welcome back.June 29, 2012 at 6:52 pm #32481Hello and best of luck with your future plans! They sound very exciting!

June 29, 2012 at 8:03 pm #32493People think the Japanese are robotic? Sounds like an oversimplification. I wouldn’t know what feature exactly gives that impression either. They are just as human as I or the people criticizing. Archeology sounds like a blast if you can make a living out of it. I wish you the best of luck.

AnonymousMy gues is because japanese has a very exact phonetic pronounciation. ka ki ku ke ko. Doesnt change whether it’s Sa or Ma. Compared to English where syllables get merged and morphed into pronounciation.
