Hey all,
So far I haven’t had any dramas with my study using TF, however I’m currently up to the Passion List from season 1 Ch5.
I chose Photography as my passion, however I’ve noticed a few of my Words seem to only show with Katakana mixed in.
For example Camera being カメラ, or Digital being デジタル obviously Katakana makes up a majority of those words.
Can I use write these out in Hiragana? Cause I doubt I could really write out かめら for camera, correct?

If you need help remembering how the katakana is read, feel free to temporarily write it in hiragana, same as you’d write the pronunciations of kanji in hiragana. However, in the wild, you’ll see it in katakana pretty much all the time (though you might, on rare occasions, see it in hiragana, if they’re trying to be cute or clever).
Ha! カKaメMeラRa. If I remember correctly, katakana are used for foreign, and scientific words, so maybe keeping that in mind will help you if you want to go around it.
I kind of dropped the list when every other word tuned out 200+ results with non of them quite fitting, and some being strikingly similar. I picked literature and I’d give some examples, but I don’t remember what precisely I picked, because I disposed of the page in order not to clutter up my book. I decided to come back to it when it would become actually important, and hope that it won’t. In case it does I may try going full retard and do a “20 things I like” list rather than a themed one and see if I can get away with it.

Might see how I go with it, a majority of the words I’ve picked are in Hiragana and there’s just a few that throw Katakana in the mix, if anything it should help prepare me for Katakana.

I ended up skipping the passions list as well, because it got too complicated. I wouldn’t worry about it.
There are occasional exercises that require the passions list, but you don’t really need to be passionate about your list.
So as an alternative it might be better to choose a place that you go to often, and make a list of the objects, adjectives, and verbs that would be used there and use that. Something like a movie theater or a restaurant. So even though you might not be passionate about it, it’s still extremely relevant.

Good to know what’s coming up. Thanks mate! I should also make a learning blog, as it has been recommended. The silliest things give me a hard time, while those I’ve been dreading turn out to be smoother than babies bottom. Capturing that for myself should be quite therapeutic now, and maybe hilarious in 10 or 20 years from now.

I wound up skipping the passion list at the point in the lesson where Koichi basically went “yeah, your passion sucks. Don’t bother making a list.”
I, too, gave up on my passion list. My first one got a little complicated when I tried to pick “dance” as a passion. Not even jisho.com could find a translation for what the heck I was looking for sometimes. So then I threw that one out and made a passion list of food. Yet, almost all of them were eventually covered in the 50 basic Japanese nouns on Anki, and I even found out that some of my translations were incorrect (such as “breakfast”). In the end, I’ve basically given up on my passion list as unreliable and kind of wasteful.
