Hi…this is a question about the point at which we are told to input our passion list into Anki. Following the video, it would appear the english word goes on the “front” and the hiragana on the “back” of the card. But when I run through it, I find this reverse “recall” to be very difficult to remember. I went through it in an attempt to at least begin to recall each of the words and ended up putting getting 5 or 6 words tagged as “leeches”. So I’m wondering if it would be better to put the hiragana on the “front” and english on the “back” as then I’d be reading/recognizing the word and have to recall the meaning (much easier I think). I’d have a much better shot at actually learning the hiragana for the word and be able to eventually perform recall. When I compare this to how the sentence decks are setup, it would appear to confirm my hunch… Anyone know what I’m talking about?

Thanks for any suggestions…I’m still learning this whole Anki thing.

English on front, Hiragana on back, is better. Active recall will help you remember it 10x fold.

Hiragana on Front, English on back is passive recall, and a lot easier.

Completely up to you which you want. Almost everyone goes Hira/Kanji –> English and it works just fine.

I say do both! Double the cards by having one of each :-)
