So, this is why I asked for a PS3 for Christmas. I created a second “special” PSN Store account so that I could download things of a “special” variety and play them.
I documented (recorded) a fraction of what is to be included in my immersion.

(BTW, please ignore my massive failure at the beginning.)December 26, 2011 at 8:18 pm #23009This is why I wanted a PS3 as well. :D
Region-free Japanese games and DVD’s? Access to the Japanese PSN store? Near-total immersion while playing games? YES PLEASE.
I stressed over the cost of one until I won one in a raffle at a work event. ^_^
Let me ask, since you got that demo, that means it’s possible to buy content from the Japanese PSN store? I ask because even though I have a PSN Japan account, I wasn’t sure if they’d take my gaijin credit card to buy some Japanese games.
December 26, 2011 at 9:13 pm #23010No, you have to have a Japanese credit card. Though, demo’s and PV’s (which that Killzone 3 was a demo) are free and don’t require any payment information. Also, when it comes down to buying Japanese stuff for the PS3, I say order it online, that way you actually have a physical copy that you can hold in your hand.
As for my PS3, I might end up getting another one to sell, considering one of my jobs is GameStop and I’m part of the PS RLS (Retail Loyalty), I’m currently entered into a Christmas giveaway containing over $1000 worth of PS3 stuff. Wish me luck in that case.
Biggest complaint I have about the JP PSN Store is that all it contains is games and PVs. No movies or other forms of media (US PSN Store has movies and TV series).
According to the Japanese website, it does have movies and anime and stuff, though the PSN store on my actual PS3 does not have that section when I login to my Japanese account.

You don’t need a credit card to buy stuff on other PlayStation stores, you can buy a PSN card online then redeem the code you get emailed to you, then you’ll have a fixed amount of money to spend. It’s worth noting that the Japanese cards are quite pricey compared to other regions, seems to be a big mark up.
December 27, 2011 at 12:36 pm #23016It’s not region free but a large portion of Blu-Ray media isn’t locked. Also, unlike DVDs, the Americas and East/Southeast Asia are both Region A.
DVDs are a pain in the ass, but I haven’t had a problem with any Japanese media yet. One of the main reasons for not getting my PS3 in Japan was the DVD region… pssshhh
December 27, 2011 at 1:42 pm #23017@Yggbert, well that may be true for DVD’s, but North America and Japan share the same Region-Code for Bluray so you shouldn’t have a problem with those either. This is probably because they both use NTSC instead of PAL (Usually the UK and most of Europe use PAL)
December 27, 2011 at 3:16 pm #23020It’s still true though, it is only region free for games, it’s just a stroke of luck that more regions share the same region codes for Blu-Ray, DVDs use like 6 commercially.
