Hey everybody,
Ever since the latest TextFugu redesign, I’ve heard a lot of feedback that the Japanese text on TextFugu doesn’t appear correctly or at all in Google Chrome.
Unfortunately though, I haven’t been able to replicate the problem myself with Google Chrome on any operating system. I’ve tried on Mac, Windows, and Linux without any success. Because I haven’t been able to see if firsthand, I’m still not really sure how to fix it.
If you are having this problem, please post in this thread. If you could, include a screenshot, what version of Google Chrome you’re using, and what operating system you’re on.
If you’re unsure which version of Chrome you have or what operating system you’re using, you can check out this website to find out:
Thanks guys, and sorry for the trouble.
February 8, 2012 at 10:23 am #26443Hey Hashi,
Don’t know if I’m posting this in right place. My home computer works fine with Chrome and I haven’t had any problems.
I’m having a problem at work with accessing chapters in the table of contents. I’m on Windows XP using IE 7.0. I can access the table of contents page but when I click on the more button the information disappears.
I took a screen shot listed below:

ReneFebruary 8, 2012 at 12:10 pm #26453Oh, weird. Fortunately, I’ve got an XP computer available to me and I’m able to replicate the problem. I’ll look into it and see if I can figure out what’s going on.
February 8, 2012 at 1:05 pm #26460Rene, it looks like I got it working. It ain’t pretty, but that’s IE7 for you. Shoot me an email if you have anymore problems.
February 8, 2012 at 6:19 pm #26485Thanks! After using Chrome and Firefox, I’ve learned to work around IE’s “quirks” :)
February 16, 2012 at 7:39 pm #26816It looks like a bug in Chrome. I developed a reduced test case and filed a bug report.

A workaround is to remove text-rendering: optimizeLegibility from your stylesheet style.css. It’s in the body section at line 309.
February 17, 2012 at 7:01 am #26831I am having the exact same problem as jkl. The Japanese text does not show up in Chrome. There are simply blank spaces where the Japanese text should be. (I’m on Windows Vista with Chrome Version 17.0.963.56 m) Any fix for this yet?
I have found a temporary way around this, for any of you who have Internet Explorer installed on your computer, there is an extension you can download for Google Chrome (Wrench Icon > Tools > Extensions > Get More Extensions) called IE Tab that allows you to open an Internet Explorer based tab within Google Chrome. This way you at least don’t have to leave the Chrome browser and can open the Textfugu pages with the IE Tab feature and see the text properly. I did have to go into the IE Tab Extension’s options menu and set it to have (Internet Explorer 9 Standards), which you must have IE 9 installed in order to use. The IE Tab extension defaults to IE 7 standards, which unfortunately creates the same problem of no Japanese text showing up.
At least those using Chrome can use the IE Tab extension (with some tweaking, noted above) to view these pages until we can find a definite fix.

I tried removing optimizeLegibility, see if that helps at all with your problem!
