In English, some of the questions words have two meanings. Like, for example, “how” can mean “how is it so?” and “how many/much/often” same with why and what in some cases. So, my question is, in Japanese would you also use question words like this? Or would you use how only as a “how is it so?” and instead of how often say something else? Like say “does he shop very often?” instead of saying “how often does he shop?” the way you would in English.

How much (does it cost) = いくら
    How many = いくつ
How long, how far = どのぐらい
How (by what means) = どうやって
How is this (as in, what do you think of it) = どう
    How often = 何度 (なんど)
How is it so = why is it so = なぜ

Gotta love how many uses there are for “how”.

Thanks, Sheepy. I did leave one off, though: polite form of どう (likely to be used by shop assistants) = いかが

    =)
