    To whom would you use this word to address? I’m fairly sure I’ve seen it used in dating scenarios but Jisho.org gives:

    1: (Male term or language) (Familiar language) you; buddy; pal;
    2: (Archaism) monarch; ruler; sovereign; (one’s) master

    Which one is the most common?

    In Japan, my friends told me it was never used for superiors. I think ‘きみ’ is something for younger brothers or sisters, girlfriends or boyfriends, or very close friends––things like that. I’ve actually heard it used by male singers in J-Pop for girlfriends.

    “Archaism” means it used to be used like that, but isn’t any more.
