You are welcome back any time. Check in over on the study thread some time and let us know how you are doing.

It may sound brash, but I’m being completely honest.

You say that you do not like how it looks. If you do not like how it looks, tough baloney. That is why I’m saying 「乞食は選り好みできない」 because it sounds like you are choosing not to use it based on how it looks。There are many other sites like lang-8 but lang-8 is the most well known one. Using lang-8 gives people a proper mindset to give you corrections which you will most certainly get so unless you establish good friends on facebook and twitter, no one will care what you write. I write stuff in Japanese all the time on facebook and no one cares half the time about what I write and I barely use twitter. So lang-8 = friendly community ; facebook and twitter = usable only if you have good friends but even then, less reliable

It would be better if you started learning the kanji along with the hiragana and definition. Really, the whole “I’ll wait till I’m good” mentality puts me down. Because exactly when are you going to get good? You might as well dive head first into it and get used to it now, than being 3 months into your learning and finally seeing that にほんご is actually 日本語 or realizing that 感じ and 漢字 is the same pronunciation but different meaning.

How are people supposed to know that you aren’t learning kanji yet? Real Japanese doesn’t consist of only hiragana so of course it is only natural that native japanese person will insert the kanji where they need to be. You say it like its a bad thing, “ughhh they put kanji in again, why can’t you just leave it in hiragana”. The way I see it, the less you use kanji, the more and more it is the same as lying to yourself. It’s great that you aren’t using romaji because you already know how the roman alphabet works. But once you know hiragana and katakana, you just have to move on. I don’t know what kinds of problem you might have with kanji or if you are learning at your own pace, but I highly suggest you start learning kanji immediately. I’m sorry that I completely disagreed with what you said but I would have done the same thing too if I were a Japanese person. I am also sorry if I’m being too straightforward because I really have no reason to sugarcoat things and say things like “oh poor you, the native japanese person didn’t go easy on you because you’re a beginner.” That is what I mean when I say 「この世はそんなに甘くない」

I’m sure the internet is big enough for you to see the difference between what I’m saying and what real trolling is like. If I really wanted to troll you, I would be saying stuff like “your japanese probably sucks and thats why you can’t use lang-8″.

But, if you really never want to come back again, that’s fine too. It’s a huge shame though, there are many people willing to help you here.

I just want to say one thing to all of that… I don’t even know all of the hirigana yet I know absolutely NO Katakana yet, and I am learning what my college professor is telling me to learn at the moment so sorry if I do not go at your pace.

    久しぶり!
Hello missing, nice to see you around again. I found you on lang-8(I remember something about you asking to make friends with newcomers), so I have gone ahead and send a request :)
It will probably be a good laugh xD but I am making huge progress thanks to the motivation it has given me to chat with Japanese people :)

Accepted. Nah I’m just here because this really bugged me. My goals are way too gradiose and time limited for me to prolong things that took me only a week or two. Other than wanting to get better, no one ever found out the second thing about why I wanted to leave Textfugu. If you look at my latest lang-8 journal, maybe you’ll find out why….

    This is silly!

lilkittychan – You have been learning Japanese for 3 weeks, only know some Hiragana and no Katakana/ Kanji. Yet you have posted things and translated things…? I’m no master of advice but I think it can only be fair that you use what you /know/. I make it a point that I don’t use any characters/words I don’t understand because I feel like I would be cheating myself (and the others who read it). As for Lang-8 : maybe you could clarify in your entries that you only know Hiragana so that they don’t correct you beyond your comprehension? Maybe you should just take a step back, cool off, and focus more on learning the Japanese basics rather than getting ahead of yourself in all these social programs… I don’t know.

I don’t really see what the big deal is about anything. I mean it is the internet afterall…

Same goes for Japan right? :P

@ Reiden – who are you refering to?

    @ larisajane
    couldn’t agree more :D
I have just started using lang-8 and I can tell you that it is messy… Every setence gets corrected, but atleast most of it is obvious to me :D

    http://lang-8.com/295072
This is my account, and as you can see even though I am through season 4 I get alot of corrections.
I don’t recommend using lang-8 untill TextFugu suggests it :) untill then there really is no reason to start :/

I think her curriculum is too slow. I’m actually surprised by the speed that they teach at my university and if I’m not careful, I’ll be surpassed.

I make it a point that I don’t use any characters/words I don’t understand because I feel like I would be cheating myself (and the others who read it).

It’s alright to make mistakes especially on lang-8 since you will be told the correct thing to say. An example is present if you take a look at Mark’s recent lang-8 journal ( http://lang-8.com/295072/journals/1154182/ ) when he use 援助 incorrectly. In fact, I only use lang-8 nowadays just to see the correct way of saying something ( http://lang-8.com/123987/journals/1105679/ ). Also japanese friends help too.

    Like I said earlier, 「のるかそるか」

No offense but you’re going to get battered in real life if you can’t even take some constructive advice here.

We’re only trying to help but because it’s not what you want to hear you’re taking it the wrong way and overreacting.
