I was going through the Radicals 2 flash cards (provided here) when I came across a few that didn’t seem to make much sense.

the flash card for fins is ハ but in the TextFugu Kanji/Radical page it is displayed with the second stroke curving in the opposite direction making it look more like the radical 八 (volcano). On top of that, the flash card for volcano is 八 but in the TextFugu Kanji/Radical page it is diplayed/described as having a “flat top”.
Is it just a different style of font between the site and the flash cards, or am I missing something?

Ok… when I submitted this post, the images of the radicals that are being displayed have changed to the correct versions rather than the ones I see on the flash cards… weird… must be a font issue.
    Anyone else experiencing this?

Yeah, it’s fonts. “Volcano” with the hat is, essentially, the fancy calligraphic style generally used in formal computer fonts, while without the hat is the typical handwritten style, and is generally used in the more casual computer fonts. There’s a number of other kanji with similar differences, and one or two which are even quite drastic (like 冷, for example).

The official list of radicals doesn’t differentiate between “volcano” and “fins” – they’re basically the same radical.
