Yeah I know there’s a thread for RTK questions already buuuut I felt like making a new one.
    That being said, my questions:
How many kanji do you do (or did) per day and how long does (did) it take? (hrs per day?) I’m fine with my current progress, but maybe I’m taking to long? I’m doing 50 kanji per day and it takes me… 2 hours… Although I have to say my retention skill is very high (only forget 1 or 2 the next day.)
What comes next? At the rate I’m going I’ll be done by Novemberish and I don’t want to idle once I’m done. Any suggestions? If it helps I have tons of free time (from 3pm-9pm), but I’m also really good at procrastinating :D
それじゃ、Off to learn 50 more kanji (Kanji count: 1500).

I did 20 per day but only went through the RTK Lite method (the 1200 most frequently used Kanji). I no longer remember how long it took per day, but I don’t remember it ever taking long.

Once you’re done I would recommend moving straight onto vocab without any delay. Get yourself a good Core2000/6000 deck and either review the cards “kanji to kana” or “kana to kanji”. Kanji to kana is quicker and easier in my experience (recognising and reading kanji compounds is a lot easier than producing them), but I find doing kana to kanji works my brain much more and so is probably more effective at engraving the words into my memory.

After learning my first 2000-3000 words by doing kana to kanji, I then set up a second deck and now do it both ways. You’ll probably have to experiment and find what works best for you.

You’ll also want to get started on grammar if you aren’t already learning that.

So core 2000/6000? Once I started core 2k, but decided to finish RTK first. The one thing I can’t figure out is how to get the sound working on that deck! I can deal with it though :( I guess my grammar is OK for now, I’m midway through tae kim’s essential grammar (but that’s usually where I start getting lost, and skip lessons, I’m guessing it’s because I need to practice those grammar points some more.

I was doing 10/day and it was taking me about an hour/day, between learning new words and then Anki reviews. I recently upped that to 20/day in an attempt to finish before I go to Kyoto in mid-December. I’m currently at 835, and learning new words and Anki take me around 2 hours/day now. I don’t have a lot of free time, though, and I tend to be slower overall than others on this board, so YMMV.

Afterwards, I was planning on (quickly) going back through the grammar of the old Textfugu Seasons 1-2 (new 1-4), and then finishing out the new seasons and going from there. I’d be open to other ideas, though, and will also check out the Core2k/6k decks.
