Hey all! I just joined as a member of Textfugu this morning and I’m really excited to dive into learning Japanese (my knowledge is super minimal). I currently work at a video game studio, but I recently applied for the 2014 JET Program to go teach English in Japanese public schools for a year. If I’m selected, I’ll need to be able to survive living in Japan.
Here are the goals I outlined for myself:
- I want to live and work in Japan as an Assistant Language Teacher.
- I want to be able to find my around Japan without getting lost, including traveling and day-to-day activites like shopping.
- I want to hold basic conversations with people in Japanese in order be a more effective teacher and to build relationships with people I meet.
- I want to show some Japanese language abilities to the interviewers of the JET Program, to help me land the job.
- Stretch goal: I want to watch anime without the need for subtitles.
