Hi.
I love how the kanji work and have decided to construct a nickname for myself that would describe me and at the same time look like a normal japanese name. I have found a given name 認 (Mitomu) that fits well my needs. However, I hit a snag with what to use for the family name equivalent as I do not know the subtle differences between three candidate characters:
1. 法規 (Houki)
2. 法律 (Houritsu)
3. 規律 (Kiritsu)
So far I am pretty confident that I am going to use 規 because of the eye radical.
Could someone explain for me the subtleties of the three kanji, please? I want my decision to be as informed as possible and the dry dictionary data does not really tell me what I need. I aim for a meaning of “seeing the rules/laws in life/world”.I guess it’s a little different when you’re talking about pseudonyms, but I wouldn’t go anywhere near trying to come up with a kanji name, personally. I really don’t think you’re asking this in the right place, though – TextFugu is for new learners, pretty much. You want native speakers, so maybe ask at Lang8 or Hinative. (Was gonna add “besides, how often do you come across someone named Law in English?” and then I went “oh yeah… Jude Law”. =P )
That said, how do you figure 認 is read as みとむ? Near as I can tell, the only nanori it has is みとめ, but maybe I’m just looking in the wrong place.
