I was invited to state my goal for studying Japanese. This is what I wrote:

I want to continue to work in Japan, and I want to be respected when I converse in Japanese.

(I confess, I used at “e-post it”, but I will remember it. thanks for the suggestion. I am impressed with the Kanji lessons for beginners, and I thought these people deserve the $99 dollars, no matter what.

    Welcome!

You want to continue to work in Japan? Does that mean you currently are? Where? In what capacity? =)

Yes, I have lived in Japan since 2006, though I have had some travel back to Minnesota and to the Philippines and Korea. I guess I am one of the older Japanese students here at 56 and counting! I have mixed experience with Japanese language study, and unfortunately, I have spent a number of years using Romaji for part of my work as a monk and priest. I presently live at Nasu Trappist Monastery, and I work for sisters who run a farm and a cookie factory. It is beautiful place in Tochigi Prefecture. We have a nice view of Mount Nasu (Nasu-dake). Hello! I also go back and forth between my home state and Minnesota (for school). That sounds really cool, not many people can make the claim that they’ve lived in Japan with such a profession. I definitely envy you, haha! I also think it’s great when people study a language regardless of their age. I’ve been trying to convince my parents to study spanish for years but they refuse!
