The part where the picture associated with each post doesn’t really show any association other than it is above the first paragraph, and that date/ comments/ posted by section is just ugly to me being next to the indented paragraph. Also that between all the posts if you scroll down on the page don’t really have anything separating them from the last, like it could just be one big post consisting of indented paragraphs and wide pictures. Then once you get into the actual post is just soooo wide. It almost looks cheaper or something, as if /less/ effort was put into it. Maybe it’s because the empty space under the search bar/ next to the post gives the text a weird offset.. All I know is that I like the old-new one better. It was prettier.

    But that’s just me!

I haven’t studied since the site went under changes. :(
I want to start again but I don’t know what to do about my Anki list. Should I just start completely new lists with the new downloads?

The only Anki deck changes are pretty much the new kanji decks and the new kanji vocab decks. If I remember, there are some new Sentence decks as well (the old ones are the same). I would say that you don’t need to restart the anki decks for lessons, but you may want to review the new kanji.

    Updates! Fun. :)
Might I chime in? I have three things to say:
    1. New blog layout is…okay. I liked the other one better, but this one is okay. It needs to have some sort of separation between each post preview, though.
    2. I did like the descriptions on the lessons… I hadn’t studied for a while, and when I came back to do so, I found I had to look at my notes to remember where I was at rather than the description and picture of each lesson. That in and of itself wasn’t a big deal, though; I just think the descriptions were helpful.
    3. Love the navigation bar, new content and downloads, radicals/kanji page, and the Fugu!

Having to go to a separate page (textfugu.com/menu/) to navigate around the site when it used to be possible to do that from any page is a step backwards in my opinion. Aside from that, the site has been as good as ever.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I’ve been having a lot of trouble accessing the Textfugu website lately. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Basically when it doesn’t I get an error page that says an invalid .htaccess file but other times I access the site just fine. Also when I try to access the website and get that error message sometimes other servers will work just fine, for example, If my desktop displays the error message my cellphone may show the site just fine or vice versa. Then again, I had moments where every computer and ISP provider I could try came up with the error message.

For me it’s not a big deal since I’m waiting for the next lesson to appear but I just thought I should mention it and see if I’m alone here.

Hm, that sounds weird. The next time that happens, please take a screenshot and send it to me at hashi@textfugu.com.

And if anybody else is having the same problem, please also send me an email or mention it in this thread.

    Thanks!

Yeh occasionally both textfugu and tofugu seem to be down for a few hours at a time, maybe a couple of times a week.

I’ll post up next time it happens.

I’m not sure if this is discussed already somewhere but on the radicals page there are 1-stroke and 2-stroke radicals in the 3-stroke radical category such as slide and drop.

Nevermind.. I can’t delete my above post. It’s strokes for kanji not radicals. Sorry!

My family name seems to have become Duck, what a surprise! (just starting 4-stroke kanji part 7)

I’m also mysteriously behind on the radicals, are there some extra pages I should look for?

Actually that was a bit vague. What I meant was that the radical name changed between learning it an the Kanji for family name.
Also the Kanji vocab 4-7 includes the vocab for 4-8.

Did I get caught in an update?

Thought I’d revive this thread rather than making a new one. Just noticed the latest posting on the dashboard about TextFugu V3. Here it is:

“Info On Upcoming Update (TextFugu Content v3)

I’ve gotten to the point where the third “edition” (that’s what textbook authors call it, right?) of TextFugu is nearing the runway and getting close to land. I’d say it’s about a month away (so, mid or late June, I’m hoping). Since this content update is changing a lot of things, I won’t be adding new lessons while I finish this up. It would just make me redo a lot of work, and I’d rather do something one time the way I want it, so there’s more time for other things afterwards. Kanji will continue to get added in during this time, however.

    Some info on v3:

    – Will include all of Season 7 (that’s a lot of new lessons)
    – Ordering of lessons will mostly stay the same.
Hoping to add an “advanced” section when v3 comes out. This will be run by someone else, though, so it’s more like extra content you can use to study with that won’t take my time away from new lessons.
    – Vocabulary will be quite different, in terms of order. Right now vocab is the hardest thing for people. I want to put more emphasis on using kanji with vocab right from the start, rather than much later. Also, ordering of vocab that you learn is more based on how common the word itself is. Kanji will also be adjusted for this, too, though all the kanji you see now (and more) will remain available to you, even if the order changes.
    – Better menu. Current menu isn’t that great. Too many clicks, etc. Making improvements there.
    – Responsive layout. Will look good on tablets and phones (yay!).
    – A few extra forum features, but not too many more. Wouldn’t want to make you too powerful… dun dun dunnn.
    – More chapters per season, shorter chapters, fewer pages. Kind of a mix between what I liked from TextFugu v1 and TextFugu v2.
    – A lot more practice. Also, practice pages are more varied in terms of how you practice, making it more interesting, I think. Will include all the practice pages that “don’t exist” yet, as well. I think the main emphasis of this update is on the practice pages, though, so expect a good amount of it.
    – More useful/usable kanji/radicals/vocab page.
    – Mnemonics for (almost) all vocab, even ones that aren’t from kanji you’ve learned.
    – Separate blog, probably blog.textfugu.com – will make it easier to post up there more often, for various reason that don’t really matter.
    – Learning decks that use the nice new features of and are compatible with Anki 2.0 (also hopefully coming out around June?)

Of course, if you have any questions feel free to contact me. If you’re on monthly and sad that there’s no big updates for a month, and you’ve been paying for quite a few months, also email me, I’ll upgrade you to Forever. If you are super-duper sad about this upcoming update and want a refund, you can, once again, email me.

Will be showing off a few of the updates pretty soon on Twitter / Facebook and such, so keep an eye out. Study hard! “

I’m sure I’ll digest the above about v3 when it’s here, but…will it require to go back over seasons I’ve already done / anki decks I’ve already done? (I recall the changes earlier in the year dictated this)
