@Chris – Sorry, I’m not sure what you mean. Copy them from each lesson and make anki decks like that?

Sorry I was too tired to explain last night. You should have a sentences deck in Anki that you’ve been adding to. Open it up, and on the top left is a green plus sign “add items”, you can find it in the menu too. Now, as you go through each Textfugu lesson, there are example sentences on the pages, with the little blue arrow that plays audio. These are pretty much what the sentence decks consisted of. So, taking a random example, Season 4 “What do you want”, page 6.
We have the sentence “すし を たべます”, so take that and copy it into the “expression” field of your “add items” popup window. Then copy “I will eat sushi” into the “meaning” field. Then right click on the blue arrow (the one that plays the audio for the sentence), and select “copy link address” (this is in chrome, it might be different in another browser). Go back to your add items popup, and right click and “paste” in the “audio” field. It will look something like this “[sound:34-tori.mp3]” (though not 34-tori.mp3 as that’s for bird). It will play the audio automatically so you will know that it worked.
Add any tags that you want, and then click “add” at the bottom. Usually there are about 10-20 example sentences per lesson that I find useful. You can pick and choose which ones you want, or add them all. All the lessons have audio, with the exception of 2 or 3, up to the end of season 6 (I haven’t start 7 yet so I don’t know about that).
So it is a little extra work, but you’ll get the same sentences you were getting before. :)
May 20, 2012 at 11:26 pm #31025@ Chris – thanks a lot! I thought that was what you meant, but I didn’t how to do the audio! Cheers.
The sentences in Anki are a good way to revise the grammar; it’s a shame to lose them.

June 12, 2012 at 9:31 pm #31760As I’ve been working on the next versino of TextFugu, I’ve figured out a few things.
A lot of the things I wanted to do were too complicated for WordPress (what TextFugu’s built on).
Just like the reasoning for working on the next version of TextFugu, we should just take it all the way and get it done right. Basically, we should bite the bullet and get off of WordPress. But, all the work from the last month isn’t lost – it will definitely be used in the next version. I’ll also be applying a lot of it to the current version of TextFugu. It’ll just continue on the way it’s set up now, though the update will be spread out a bit more. You should be seeing a lot of fixes, updates, and new chapters starting to roll out here pretty soon.
Also, we’ll start working on the next version of TextFugu again. I’m so tired of WordPress. It doesn’t let you do a lot of the things I want it to be able to do. It also is a terrible way to keep track of things (aka everything is pretty manual when I want to connect one item with another, ex. kanji and their radicals).
We’re going to start out really simple with the (new) TextFugu v3. On launch, I hope to shoot for these features:
Make it work on mobile / tablet (might happen with the v2.5 rollouts as well, we’ll see).
Have it keep track of where you are… no more bookmarking your location in the text over and over again.
Lighter weight. Right now things are pretty heavy.
Simple quizzes of some kind… though the focus will be on making you recall more than traditional quizzes, if that makes sense. After that I have a huge list of other things that I want tackled (built-in srs not using Anki, finishing the rest of the seasons, better community features… and so many more), but that’s a little farther away.
So, basically, I wanted to apologize about the slowdown on this. You’ll be seeing a good amount of the fruits of labor from this push, but the better stuff will be arriving a little later.
More updates to come very soon.

June 12, 2012 at 9:41 pm #31761These changes sound very positive and I’m looking forward to the next update more than ever now. I’m no expert on blogs or web sites but if Word Press is restricting some features Koichi wants on the site then it’s the best decision to dump it. Tablet and smartphone support is always welcome. Keeping track of where you are is definitely a good idea.
As for the features to be implemented in the near future, I think using a built in srs instead of Anki is a good idea too. Alot of us have wanted better forum features so this is also welcome. The most important thing is new content. There’s already a new lesson up and the advanced section has debuted.
I’m very happy with this announcement and congratulate the TF team on doing an excellent job :)

Also, “a lot” is two words. =P

I first noticed it when I logged on this morning around 6am UK time. It wasn’t there when I checked the forums last night. So, sometime in that period it was introduced. I have seen a few members such as missing use the quote option before but never knew how to do it. Now that there’s a clickable option it’s a good feature to have.
I’ve noticed a few spelling mistakes in Koichi’s posts too. I should remember to hit the bounty button when possible :D

I’m pretty sure that Tubatime has been saying this for the longest time
June 13, 2012 at 9:51 am #31797Yeah the built-in SRS system sounds dope. Doesn’t change a whole lot for long-term users, but it makes TextFugu a bunch better product. If they can ditch Anki and wordpress, then Textfugu can just be your new one-stop place to get all your knowledge. I assume ideally they plan to have TextFugu+WaniKani be the ultimate combo for learning all your Japanese.
June 13, 2012 at 10:43 am #31798It would be great to get rid of anki. I mean I like it and all, but it’s just too complicated for most people. I feel this forum is mostly anki related questions! (we should have an anki section in the forum btw). :P
However the new srs would definitely have to be good for mobile. Maybe even an app.
Then again. I just realized I do like the control I have in anki, as opposed to the lack of control in wanikani. I like choosing when my next review will be. And I like the option to keep reviewing even before it’s time. I don’t like how if I mistype something it gets marked as wrong and slows the progress for that item. No such issue in anki! Also I enjoy knowing how many cards are left to review. Currently that doesn’t exist in wanikani but of course that may change.
=^..^=June 13, 2012 at 5:47 pm #31810When he says “srs” I think http://i.qkme.me/369ypk.jpg
June 13, 2012 at 10:10 pm #31826@ Trip Master
I hope they’re thinking along those lines too. Integrating everything into TF and not having to use outside sources is a good idea.@ zelda
I’ve noticed quite a few people having issues with Anki too. Hopefully the integrated srs will cause people less problems.@ Mister
Haha great pic.June 16, 2012 at 9:34 pm #31903Not to be a negative Nancy but…
That’s 1 lesson in 2 months. I feel bad for people paying monthly, hopefully more of the lessons planned for this month do make it to the current version. Right now the monthly membership seems kind of a bad deal.

June 16, 2012 at 10:10 pm #31909To be honest I think Anki 1.2.8 is very simple the problem is Koichi and co are still working on adding new smaller decks. When you have one large deck it’s so much easier but the way that Textfugu is laid out one large deck really isn’t much of an option.
