Hello!

It would be very boring if that was all I said.

So, I’ll introduce myself as well.

My name is Maria. I’m a South African-born Greek who has lived in the United States most of my life. My interest in Japan dates back to Sailor Moon when I was eight (though I had no idea Sailor Moon was Japanese–Just that I wanted to be Sailor Jupiter more than Britney Spears) then Rurouni Kenshin (which I did know was Japanese!) and slowly progressed to shoujo manga by fifth grade then animes with subs then jdramas. Now that I am a Junior in college, I find I am more interested in Japan itself as a nation and its culture and history (though it would be a total lie to say I no longer read manga nor marathon jdramas 3 or 4 at a time).

Most of my life my interest has been purely casual/hobby-ish but I love researching Japan and learning about it and there are only a few things I love to do in life so I figure I’ll actually do something about this one. Thus, I am learning Japanese. I’m also going to do a study abroad in Japan in August ’14, which should be tons of fun.

Textfugu has been the best system out there so far for me and I am finally a member after avoiding it and living off Season 1 for awhile. I am very happy with my decision and Textfugu as a whole and am excited. This forum is pretty neat too!

Random facts: I love pearls (and most jewelry). I cook all the time and will slowly attempt Japanese cooking. I do historical Reenactments for the English Renaissance and work with a professional street-acting troupe at Renaissance Festivals in Florida–This past year I played a nun. It’s a bad habit (du dun cha!). It was also a very hot one. I also love history… In case the previous sentences didn’t tip you off.

(Also! I’m pretty technology challenged [me and Anki don't get on to well] and I can’t figure out for the life of me how to put up a profile pic! Help?!)
