You probably already noticed. A few things got changed, though they’re fairly small things.
Mainly, I wanted to make the site more responsive with mobile devices. Should look better on your phones and tablets, hopefully.
Also gussied up a couple of pages.
Menu, I hope, is also more useful. I know a lot of you didn’t like the one before, so trying something a little different.
Forum… forum isn’t done yet. I’ll spend some time tomorrow working on it. Sorry it looks so terrible right now :(
Anyways, the plan is still to build a TextFugu off of WordPress, but I thought it would be good to spend a couple days making life a little better while we’re on WordPress still. Making the site work on mobile devices was the main goal!
A few of the changes also fit around some of my plans moving forward, too… just lesson formats and how I want the 3rd edition to work and flow.
Those are most of the changes. Still need to fix a few things up tomorrow, but right now I’m way too exhausted. Sleepy time.
P.S. Make sure you do a hard refresh. It will help you to not be stuck in a stylesheet limbo where you see half the previous version and half the update… same theme, just updated, so no new file names = your browser will think the old ones are just good enough when they aren’t.
August 1, 2012 at 2:04 am #33848It’s pretty.
Thanks Koichi, good job!
August 1, 2012 at 2:04 am #33849It looks great, thank you so much for making the best Japanese Textbook Online!

August 1, 2012 at 2:37 am #33851Nice update Koichi. I especially like the lesson menu. Less clicks and everything is right in front of you. The Kanji section is better organised too. The new fonts and log in page look neater and fresher. Keep up the good work :)

August 1, 2012 at 7:49 am #33861Fantastic, the site looks great on my phone. This update made my day! Thanks :D
August 1, 2012 at 8:50 am #33868I hate to be the first person to mention a problem, and I certainly hope you will get some good rest before looking at this – but since the update I’m getting a lot of squares appearing in the text – I’m using Chrome on Win XP pro, tried hard refreshing already – here’s a link to a screenshot illustrating the problem:

I’m using Chrome on Win 7 but it’s fine for me. No square boxes. Here’s a screenshot:

Darn WinXP, always making Japanese fonts difficult… Try it again. Does it work now?
August 1, 2012 at 10:25 am #33888Damn, afraid not.
Don’t know if it’s any use or not but here’s a screenshot showing what chrome computes the style as via “inspect element” - https://dl.dropbox.com/u/29536575/fugufonts2.PNG
tried switching encoding to utf-8 and stuff, think it’s using arial font – but my knowledge of fonts and encoding is sub-optimal at best.
It may even be specific to my pc, I think it was this PC I had to do some crazy stuff to get fonts and IME working in the first place.
Kanji seem to be displayed ok in most but not all places. weirdly some places that do and don’t show the kanji are showing the same computed font.
If there’s any more info i can give, let me know.
August 1, 2012 at 10:58 am #33889Tried installing Droid Sans font, did not make a difference there, but did make the dashboard and lessons page look different (nicer).
August 1, 2012 at 11:42 am #33891Hmm, I thought sans-serif would just default it to the right thing for you…
Try hard refreshing again, added some Japanese fonts now too.
August 1, 2012 at 11:49 am #33892Just wondering, what’s the difference between Premium Subscriber and Subscriber under people’s username?
