So I got some Lang8 corrections (http://tinyurl.com/qakbzna) back and I need some help with some of the answers. The rest of the corrections were great so I assume these are pretty good as well, it just surpasses my current Japanese level a tad.

1: Can we sit with you?
    私たちはあなたと座ってもよいですか?
So I don’t understand what the もよい part is.

    2: Table for two?
    お二人様でしょうか? OR 二名様でしょうか?
This one I’m at a loss with the whole sentence.

3: Do I take my shoes off?
    靴を脱いだほうがよいですか?
Here I don’t understand the だほうがよい part.

    Thanks peeps! All help appreciated.

    1. よい is another way of writing/saying いい. ~てもいい = is it alright if…

    2. It’s formalish language. お二人様 and 二名様 = two people (名 = めい = a counter for people especially for seating reservations and whatnot). でしょう = expresses uncertainty, but in this case it’s a way of being indirect.

    3. いい as よい here again. ~た方がいい = (in this case) I should do… (or it would be better if I did…). 脱いだ = past tense of 脱ぐ.
