Hello everyone. I am REALLY struggling with learning the Kanji and the vocab at the end of every lesson. It doesn’t take me long to finish a lesson of Textfugu so sometimes I go through and take notes on a few a day, but recently I have had to stop because I just cannot catch up with the Kanji and the vocab! It takes me an extremely long time to memorize things, so much so that I think I might have serious memory issues. It can take me almost a full 5 days before I think I have MOSTLY memorized a set of kanji or vocab, but even then I can’t seem to retain many of the old Kanji and Vocab. Is there a better way to pace this aspect of learning Japanese? I’m practicing every weekday but I just can’t help but feel that none of it is sinking in…

Honestly, everyone learns things differently. For some people, it’s mnemonics. For others, rote copying. The trick is to find what works for you.

Here’s one suggestion: try to anchor them to the real-world concepts or items they represent. If it’s a noun, write it on a post-it note and stick it on the object in question (assuming you’ve got one in your house). If it’s a verb, think about doing the action. Or even do the action… unless the action is, like, “murder”.
