I wanted to use the word “sun” for my passion list, but I can’t figure out what kanji are correct! Google Translate says it’s 太陽 , and that’s the first result on Denshi Jisho. However, when I use the dictionary to translate “the sun is rising” it uses the kanji 日 in the first result. What should I use?

I think both are fine, but 太陽 seems to focus more on the actual sun itself, while 日 refers to the sun and how it relates to the environment.  I think.  I’m not sure, sorry.

Either works, but 太陽 carries a bit more weight.

I’d say 太陽 refers to the Sun, the life-giver, et cetera, whereas 日 is just a flaming ball of plasma in the sky. Just my feeling, though.

I think I’ll use 太陽. It seems to make more sense in general

Thanks a lot for your help!
