Does it cover as much? Or its essentials?

I’m thinking of buying Genki 2 if EtoEto Kappa doesn’t come out before April/May and was just wondering if I can go from TextFugu directly to Genki 2, skipping the first one.

    Thanks!

Don’t want to pop into a thread to just say “I dunno”, but… I dunno. =P

In all seriousness, though, I studied Nakama at uni, and yeah, I guess TextFugu does roughly cover Nakama 1. I actually started on TextFugu AFTER we’d already started on Nakama, as a form of self-study to make sure things got hammered in place. I also studied from Japanese for Busy People for good measure.

If you want to try skipping to Genki 2, then sure, give it a try. I don’t expect you’ll be too lost, though it’s possible it may use some kanji or vocab you’ve not learnt before. Figure you can just ask questions here to fill in the gaps.

Maybe Wani could help, if vocab is an issue. I will (possibly) soon be able to have a direct-comparison between Textfugu and Genki 1 too, since I think about switching. I had a huge pause after I lost all my Anki-stuff and I’m always unsure about the release of the new TF version, which annoys me greatly. I know, this went a bit OT just now, but I felt like being a pushy brat.

Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.

I would not suggest skipping Genki 1 as I think that’s is some vocab and grammer that is not covered here that being said it would be easy to find a copy of the table of contents or lessons covered in the textbook before making a decision

Wasn’t there a free and legal version of old Genki floating around somewhere? I think we talked about that some time ago, I think I even had a butchers. Can’t remember though.
