hello!
i just joined in on textfugu and really am impressed by the overal quality of the lessons and the way they are structured. after quick glimpsing though i didn’t find any of the great tools (apart from Anki) for mobile (ipad/iphone/android) devices. is that correct?
i’d love to see, and pay for an app that uses the mnemonics, radicals and tricks presented here to learn Kanji for example.
any thoughts?
thanks so much!

December 6, 2013 at 2:39 am #42676Welcome to TextFugu!
Check out this thread for some tips on organizing Anki 2 with the early chapters of TextFugu:

You can also use the following thread to track your progress and share your ideas/concerns when you finish a season (gain a level ^_^):

You want WaniKani. It’s exactly what you are looking for:
http://www.textfugu.com/dashboard/
Sign up on the site, you’ll get an invite in a couple days. The first two levels are free then you have to pay, but membership here gives you 50% off, just remember to use the code when you get to the stage where you need to pay.
^_^
December 10, 2013 at 3:19 pm #42730You can also join memrize (free) and download some sessions to your mobile device. You have to choose the individual courses you take. I joined Tae Kim’s and some Kata ones.
December 10, 2013 at 8:18 pm #42731just looked into wanikani!
yeah looks indeed great. will test it out the next week.
the only (and i know i’m being very picky here, i understand that if you want stats and personalized scores it’s hard without it .. but .. ) thing is i’m travelling constantly through very rural areas in asia at the moment and i’d love an offline modus :). internet is not to come where i usually go.
but hey! this thing is already great.
thanks!
December 11, 2013 at 4:46 am #42738Probably better asking on the WaniKani forums. Someone may be able to create and app (if there isn’t one already) where you can use it offline, then upload the data when you are back online.
Or request it here:

December 11, 2013 at 1:07 pm #42747You might want to look into “Remembering the Kanji” by Heisig. I believe there are Anki decks made up for that already which have the mnemonics already set in it. I believe he does it by radical also (although the radicals and mnemonics are different than Koichi’s).
December 13, 2013 at 6:39 pm #42779thanks everyone for chiming in!
i am currently wokring my way through wanikani and, as soon as i have to leave this place i will focus more on the offline solution. a pure offline wanikani would be great of course. but hey! so many options out there already. will look into Heisig also, thanks!
December 14, 2013 at 4:49 am #42784Here’s another option:
http://www.wanikani.com/chat/api-and-third-party-apps/1328
This will allow you to create Anki cards for the WaniKani items that you have unlocked.
This won’t allow you to progress through WaniKani while offline, but you will be able to practice the Kanji so when you do come back online you can zip through your reviews.
