On the previous forums, someone created a thread so people would post their Twitter names, so we could all follow each other. The intention is good, but despite our common interest in studying Japanese, we all are different people who like different things ^^ In my case, I tweet a lot about video games and anime, so I can understand that someone not interested in that won’t want to follow me even though we both love and study the Japanese language.
That is why I suggest you all to use the #textfugu hashtag when tweeting about Japanese language, or anything concerning Textfugu. Every tweet containing the word textfugu is shown on every member’s Textfugu Dashboard, so it’s a fine place to tell about our progress, ask questions and share resources, without having to follow dozens of users who may or may not be interested in the same stuff as you.
I honestly think the Twitter gadget on the Dashboard is a great feature, and it is not used enough by fugus! It really can be a fine tool to make our learning more social (and fun).
TL/DR:
1. On twitter, use the #textfugu hashtag on tweets related to Textfugu and learning Japanese.
2. When logging on to Textfugu, check your dashboard for #textfugu tweets. Reply to tweets if you wish ^^June 6, 2011 at 1:42 pm #12161You don’t even need to use # – the word “textfugu” itself will make the tweet appear on the widget/feed.
But anyway, I use it all the time, mostly to ask Koichi quick questions. I don’t really tweet about my progress much because no one but Koichi cares XD The only reason I got twitter was to converse with TextFugu so I don’t have anyone else to see my tweets anyway. Any notable success I just post in the Study Thread.
June 25, 2011 at 9:19 pm #13315I think the intentions for both sides on how to handle twitter is good, but I’m not so sure that either way is necessarily better. I totally agree with you though– We certainly are all different people, and I like keeping who I follow relevant to my interests.
In regards to twitter, the solution I took was to create a separate twitter account as soon as I felt comfortable typing in Japanese. The only things I ever tweet are things related to either Japan or Japanese, or contain written Japanese language. Anyone reading this, please feel free to follow me (@andoryuu3).
But~! I still strongly agree with making use of the dashboard!
It’s a useful tool to reach out to users that you AREN’T following you, or aren’t even on twitter! I highly condone the idea of tagging textfugu when sharing a personal success tip (or similar) with studying Japanese.
It could also be tagged if someone is having trouble with a certain aspect of Japanese. Someone could state their trouble, and if they’re lucky, someone will see it and share how they are overcoming it (or how they overcame it).
