I just finished Season 2. ^_^
A lot of the vocab and grammar were already known to me, but so far, I’ve been really enjoying TextFugu. The way TextFugu teaches, makes me finally understand what I’m learning. It also keeps me motivated.
I’ve been making it my ritual to do 2 lessons a day (I haven’t failed yet ^_^). So, if everything goes as planned, I’ll see you guys here next week.

I also find TextFugus way of teaching very helpful. Koichi explains the concepts in a way that no one else do it. Besides that I like the the kind of humor he uses.
If you run into a hard time, just don’t give up and don’t question yourself.December 22, 2013 at 6:41 am #42859I’ve just written a lang-8 entry. Earlier I have written one with the 12 sentences that testes your basic grammar (you can read about them here). This time I gave them a little twist (made them more complex), and I think I’ve used something from every topic that I’ve read about in TF until now. I used a little from guidetojapanese.org (especially this).
It’s a kind of achievement for me, so I think it would fit into this topic.- This reply was modified 10 years, 11 months ago by Cimmik.
December 22, 2013 at 10:35 am #42883Arash you have inspired me to focus more on my lessons. I’m not going to go for 2 a day, but I’ll see if I can try to finish as much as one of them a day. That said, with the holidays approaching, not sure how I’ll be able to go with this. But I’ll try! >_<
Grats Cimmik. I’m not quite ready to post stuff on Lang-8, but I’m hoping to soon. ^_^

When I first time posted something on lang-8 I were absolutely not ready for it, neither am I now, but I do it nevertheless. Remember that lang-8 isn’t meant to be a place where you post things when you know, you are correct. It’s a place where you post things which you aren’t sure about. In other words. It isn’t a place for people to show off with all their perfect grammar and vocabulary. It’s a place for you to learn by your faults.
Take a look at what I’ve posted in Japanese.

Mainly simple sentences, and a lot of corrections.Have you heard about Benny Lewis? His site is fluentin3months.com. I don’t remember how many languages he speaks but I think it were about eight. And he learns them incredible fast. Latest he learnt Japanese, ok he doesn’t learn kanji. He just began chatting with Japanese as soon as he began learning Japanese. He looked everything up, but he learnt it faster than anyone I’ve heard about.
He says that people are ready to talk from day one, as well as you have been ready for posting on lang-8 from day one of your Japanese studies.
Try out reading this article about knowing nearly nothing (and watch the video)

Then just watch how much he have improved in just a few months in this video

Good luck with your studies and marry Christmas.- This reply was modified 10 years, 10 months ago by Cimmik.
December 24, 2013 at 12:26 am #42903Thanks for the suggestions. I used to be a TESOL teacher, so yeah I’m aware of the tricks of the trade and starting as early as possible.
The problem for me is time constraints. I’m working towards a PhD in psychology and I’m currently on summer break, so I want to get through as much of TextFugu as I can during the break. Once my break is over I won’t have time to look at TextFugu, but I can practice the stuff I’ve learned to that point with things like lang-8.
-Cheers and Merry Christmas to all! ^_^
December 24, 2013 at 3:42 am #42905I see. Good luck with your studies, both Japanese and PhD.
December 25, 2013 at 7:03 pm #42921Merry Christmas everyone! ^_^
As planned, I just finished season 3. Even though it was a busy day (being Christmas Eve and all), I just couldn’t allow myself to break the chain.
I’ll try to keep this up, but with vocab and grammar piling up fast, I might want to go through old stuff from time to time. So I’ll try to keep doing 2 lessons a day, but some days I might just do 1 lesson and review.
@Aikibujin: Thanks. ^_^ TextFugu did give me some great tips to keep me motivated (ie: in Season 3 Chapter 1, 6 and 10). I just hope I can keep it up. I’m pretty sure you can do it too if you can set your mind to it. Starting the chain is the hardest part.
December 27, 2013 at 5:43 pm #42939I just started season 2! I’m finding the eBook (The first free thing in the list of great things being a member offers) isn’t very helpful yet because I can’t write at all, and haven’t gotten to radicals.
When should I start the eBook? Will I just know? After reading through the first 5 pages I realized it wasn’t for me yet."It's such a kawaii morning!"December 28, 2013 at 4:12 am #42942Sorry, which e-book are you referring to?
December 30, 2013 at 6:10 pm #42969I just finished Season 4! ^_^
This of course means I also posted my first entry on Lang-8. Click here to read it (you need to be logged in though). Although the assignment was to write about yesterday, I decided to write a few sentences about my vacation in Japan (I did nothing interesting yesterday).
Season 5 sounds challenging… Wish me luck ^_^
January 2, 2014 at 9:47 pm #43047Finished season 1! Loving it!
January 3, 2014 at 4:35 pm #43059Grats guys, keep up the good work! ^_^
January 7, 2014 at 1:04 am #43186Finally finished season 2! Even though none of it was really brand new, the knowledge I had was only seedlings that refused to grow. Hard to believe it’s only been 2 weeks since I started, but having a couple years worth of vocab and syllabary knowledge already under my belt the main issue is grammar as it’s been hellishly hard to get it into my skull. I feel I procrastinated way too much despite how excited I’ve been and hoping I won’t do it as much for the next season. But as Koichi mentioned at one point I believe and not exactly quoting him, it’s sometimes really good to let the knowledge simmer in your head for a bit before continuing. Forgot about the 50% off of the lifetime thing, doublechecked and it’s still going on so I managed to snag that just now as well.
I didn’t feel too impressed after getting to the end of Season 2 and seeing a “Coming Soon” page for the practice sessions though but I think it had a good deal of practice already. Hopefully the overhaul comes sooner rather than later. Tomorrow I start Season 3!
January 7, 2014 at 6:38 am #43192Congrats to everyone on your progress! :D
Just finished Season 1. I’m really excited to start moving on to learning kanji and radicals. I’ve been trying to do an hour of Textfugu every morning when I wake up (almost like a workout routine, haha).
Let’s keep the momentum going!
