Maybe he’s like Beetlejuice: say his name three times and he appears!
*ahem*
Koichi, Koichi, Koichi
Add a note about 七人 pronunciation! There, maybe that will work ¬_¬

It is time to call HIM!
June 30, 2014 at 2:13 am #45614This may have been answered, but will my lifetime Textfugu subscription cover all 3 sections after the updates and integration?

Yes. Quote from this post by Viet here: https://www.wanikani.com/chat/wanikani/4625/page/11, which I pulled from a topic posted by Aikibujin here: http://www.textfugu.com/bb/topic/textfugu-updates/“What will happen to TextFugu subscribers when EtoEto is released?
Lifetime members will be grandfathered into EtoEto. Meaning they won’t have to pay an additional dime. The TextFugu site will remain online for a set duration to ease the transition.”- This reply was modified 10 years, 4 months ago by gauche.
July 2, 2014 at 7:20 am #45634When the updates take place, is the structure still planned to be (if I understand it correctly) EtoEto with Fugu > Kappa > Kuma levels? And will Fugu include the current TextFugu content? I’m a lifetime member currently in Season 2. I’m just concerned if the progress I make up until the point when the updates kick in will be disrupted.
July 15, 2014 at 8:00 am #45914So, I waited and waited and waited for this fabled update. Some months ago I decided I was tired of waiting, so I started on Genki instead. Now I’m almost done with Genki 2.
I guess my only regret was expecting too much. This page sure did give me a gentle intro to japanese though, as well as a hint about wanikani existing, so something good came out of it all. :)
July 15, 2014 at 8:37 am #45917Textfugu is kinda dead yeah. Fin, as someone that has done textfugu and genki 1, which goes further? Kinda looking for where I’m gonna go once I’m done with textfugu.
http://bakagaijinlog.wordpress.comJuly 15, 2014 at 10:50 am #45921Where to go after Textfugu eh.
Textfugu and Genki 1 have different grammar points emphasised. One thing you will want to do is acquire vocabulary and kanji, so RTK/Core/Whatever isn’t a bad start. Wanikani if you like Wanikani. I like Wanikani. But seriously, kanji and vocab. It’s so important.
Only having done TF, about halfway through Genki 1, I felt it was becoming slightly challenging. Near the end of Genki 1 I felt like I was learning mostly new things. Genki 1 definitely seems to go a bit further than TF, or maybe it’s just the sample text in Genki that is more difficult..
The Genki stories are all fairly inane and boring. The grammar explanations are fine.
My recommendation would probably be to just begin from Genki 1. You could probably skip a few lessons, but reviewing doesn’t hurt too much. If you feel like you know more than TF teaches you, you might be able to consider starting from Genki 2.
As for other textbooks, I’ve never tried them. I do have the Basic and Intermediate dictionaries of the japanese grammar though. They’re pretty nifty.
You should note that I’m not that much further than you, probably, so take what I say with a grain or five of salt.

Had a discussion with Koichi yesterday and we feel the current build is good enough for Alpha. We are waiting on one more feature though, which we are collaborating with another Japanese resource. We feel that this collaboration will bring a lot of value to the site. Kim of Jisho.org just recently completed a preliminary API of beta Jisho.org. We plan on using it within the site for dictionary definitions. This will be useful on the Kuma side, which is a library of Japanese text and audio.
Anyway, the next stage is to get the build working on a production server. What follows will be an initial batch of content. Afterwards we will be sending invites to TextFugu lifetime members.
That is the plan as of now.
August 19, 2014 at 12:15 pm #46300What worries me is that everything looks like a place holder, so it may be (like previous updates) a big user interface/experience change with little to no new content.
Sure looks fancy though, could be cool. I’ll try to be optimistic again.

I’m going to go cry in a corner now.
These forum posts from the admins are great because we get at least a taste of what’s to come. If they could just copy and paste some of that text into the updates page on the website, it would be a lot easier to access this information.

I’m in Season 3 and am also curious if my current study will be disrupted.
September 20, 2014 at 3:35 pm #46520Sounds pretty awesome!
A lot has changed these past several years so finally learning some Japanese will be fun again with what is coming. I am no longer really serious about learning the language as priorities shifted (to doing a phd in nature sciences).
But it could still be fun to do some learning here, once it arrives.
Hopefully before I graduate tho.
CheersOctober 2, 2014 at 11:18 pm #46578As a developer working on large projects myself (building a CMS actually) – I know exactly how this must feel.
So Koichi/Viet/Fugu Game – Don’t lose heart, keep on pushing. Seeing these videos of the progress Viet has done has me all sorts of excited, inspired, and wanting to throw open Sublime Text right now to work some more on my own projects.
November 17, 2014 at 1:53 pm #46839Recent Wani Kani activity…
Speaking of Etoeto:
Viet said: “The time frame Koichi stated of an expected end of the year Alpha release has not changed. We are still on track for this date.”Also “TextFugu lifetime members will have access to the alpha and any subsequent versions of the site at no additional charge.”
I have no memory of Koichi stating an expectation of an end of 2015 alpha of eto eto. Also, I thought there already was an alpha of eto eto that was abandoned….This must be totally super alpha with sprinkles.
