Is anyone else having issues with the rote memorization of the vocab words? I stopped my progression in TextFugu until I can get a handle of my current list of vocab words, but I consistently mess then up every single review. It’s so bad that it’ll take me several tries during the same review session before I get them. I always make sure they come up again the next day. Any suggestions?

February 3, 2014 at 4:54 pm #43933If it’s possible, talk to yourself a lot. When you pick up an apple say りんご, when you set something down say ここ. Basically it’s what kids do when they learn new words. They NEVER shut up, then BAMF they can speak.

Right, so.
What I’ve just done is run around my house with post-its and on them I’ve written down the vocab words that I come across in TextFugu (in hiragana of course!!). Then I shove them on the thing that the word suggests it should go on. I’ve also left space on them so that, perhaps at some point in the future, I can add the kanji version as well. At this point there aren’t very many, and there are certain obvious things that don’t work. For example, the last I checked there are VERY FEW subways in my house. Too few, I’ll say too few.
Anyways, as I get more words of things that I own, I’ll start putting up more of these. The goal is to make myself look like I’m a complete asshat who labels everything he owns. Sorry, typo, I meant to say that the goal is to encounter these words, and go “hey this bag of sugar could also be referred to as さとう” or “man I’m sure glad I live alone so nobody else sits at my つくえ” or, more likely, I can stand in the middle of my living room holding a post-it that says “ともだち” and sigh at my own loneliness.
(last one is a joke)

By the way, your signature says “I haven’t been around long enough to warrant a cool signature” – I’ve been around almost the longest out of anyone that still visits here and I’ve not even got a sig :D To be honest, I didn’t really know that was possible… :S

April 28, 2014 at 8:08 am #45020Michael, you’re right! The internet will forever be my ともだち!!
And yes, you too can be an outstanding sir! You too, Joel, as I notice you have not included a signature either ;) (no judgement of course)

But…but… さとう doesn’t mean bag of sugar, it means sugar, just. ahh. not “sugar, just.” I mean just sugar. Just without the “just.” So… This is what I mean: さとう means sugar.
Do you also label you labels with レッテル?April 28, 2014 at 10:45 pm #45025“Sugar” is the important part, not the container in which it is housed! Ermahgerd, vercerb! :D
And you know what, when I get there, yes I will. And I will post a picture just for you. Make ya twitch a little ;)
