I never really used the forum much – I was never an active user – but it’s still kinda sad. I can definitely see why he wants to do it; it’s probably a whole lot of work, a lot of his time spent on it. He probably doesn’t get as much out of it any more as he once did.
Is this maybe a cue for Bbvoncrumb and… – Tubatime2010 was it? – to try and attract these migrants to their own forum? Is that thing even still going? Can’t remember what it was called…
May 10, 2013 at 2:06 pm #39997Thanks for the heads-up. I have quite a few bookmarks I will need to save in .html ^^; While I have never been an active user, I have used it a lot for resources and also some advice. I really hope he decided to just lock down the forum but keep it open for browsing. There is so much great stuff on there.

May 13, 2013 at 6:14 am #40010So a forum where the admin never has time to come around and the moderators don’t do enough… (I read up on the koohii issues) that sounds a lot like this forum…
Yeah. Fightin’ words. :P
But yes, like crumb said, NihonBeat forum is up and running and it’s quite sexy. Come check it out. Don’t forget to swing by NihonBeat’s main page while you’re there!
We’ve put a lot of work into this site so I hope you like it!
May 14, 2013 at 2:10 am #40019Sounds good, I will check it out. Congratulations!
Will there be any AKB48 coverage?

AnonymousConsidering AKB is the majority of news these days, yes, yes there is.
June 14, 2013 at 5:12 am #40645There is a Japanese language meetup group in my town that meets every two weeks. It tends to be more general chat with people that have an interest in the language and culture than it is a way to learn or to practice. However, last time, one person suggested that those of us who were up to the challenge should try forming a sort of book club. We would read some prescribed material and then discuss it (in Japanese) at the sessions. He suggested light novels. After looking around for a while it looks like キノの旅 might be a good choice since its mainly about experiencing different types of cultures (as opposed to samurai/wizards/aliens/monsters) and could lead to some good discussion. Have any of you read any of this series? How was it? Is there something else you would recommend?
June 14, 2013 at 6:48 am #40646I’d also reccomend Spice and Wolf; mostly focuses on the interactions between the two main characters as they travel through various countries. Lots to discuss with those books. Fusion of Japanese and pagan mythology/folk religion.

July 16, 2013 at 6:56 pm #41126Just getting into “Spice and Wolf” at the moment. I quite like it, except for when they bang on about currency at length.

Damn, is this mesmerising…
Right now, they’re selling a fancy looking iron that can work on clothes while they’re still on the hanger. Who needs anime or dorama when you’ve got a shopping channel, eh?October 7, 2013 at 7:25 am #42083Is it like that iron that shoot a huge jet of hot steam? Because I saw that in an infomercial a long time ago here. Also
January 28, 2014 at 9:13 am #43823生き返した!The thread and my Japanese study.
In the past 3 months I have gotten dumped, cancer, surgery, robbed, relocated, and just bummed out in general. But things are on the up and up. New place, clean CAT scans, a bread maker, and a Japanese class for adults. Plus, I’m about to eat a chicken sandwich.
I’m back, baby.
