Another 30 words gotten through today, 150 cards on Read the Kanji, Lang-8 entry and a bit of reading from the sentence patterns book.
I like this 30 word a day pacing, makes the ultimate lists seem like no biggie.
November 30, 2011 at 8:13 am #21649Yet another lang-8
This time practicing the different uses of the と particel for the first time
http://lang-8.com/295072/journals/1206720November 30, 2011 at 11:21 am #21658I’ll be done with the ultimate verbs list in 2 days, yay! Then immediately starting on adjectives because I want more describing words first of. That should only take a week and then I’ll get straight onto the nouns list. I’ve still not touched S5 of TextFugu yet but I’ll probably finish everything by the end of the year, just waiting on nailing this vocab.
Now about to do 150 cards on Read the Kanji and get through another 30 verbs.
November 30, 2011 at 2:58 pm #21680Learned more verbs, net derped for an hour or so and couldn’t continue on Textfugu, so I was reading Japanese Sentence Patterns for Effective Communication in the meantime. I found the book pretty useful.
December 1, 2011 at 11:32 am #21707I finished “In a Grove” in Breaking into Japanese Literature and the first 6 essays in Read Real Japanese Essays. So far I like the content of the essays better than I like the fiction, but I like the layout of BIJL better than RRJE. The notes section at the end of RRJE is interesting, but it is awkward to keep flipping back and forth.
These days my study routine is:
* do 50 listening comprehension / kana dictation reps in Anki
* watch 1 Japanese TV show
* practice writing 30 – 40 kanji
* read 1 page of RRJE
* read 1 page of BIJLI usually do most of my studying in the morning, and then I read BIJL right before bed. Everything you need to read each page is right there in front of you, so you don’t need a separate dictionary. Reading in bed is a good way to get in a little extra time with Japanese each day. Really, none of my activities amounts to much by itself, but taken all together I feel like I’m making progress.
I have cut way back on Anki time, since it was getting really boring. I am actually doing reps at a slower rate than reviews become due, so it will be a while before I spread the cards out enough so that I can start doing new cards again. In this situation, I find the “Review cards from smallest interval” setting to be useful. It isn’t a big deal if a card with a large interval doesn’t get reviewed exactly when it comes due.
December 1, 2011 at 11:49 am #21708Got through another 30 words on the ultimate verbs list and did 200 reviews for that deck on Anki, only have around 50 words left now. Woohoo.
About to do another 150 cards on Read the Kanji then I’ll probably write a Lang-8 journal and retire to gaming for the rest of the evening. I didn’t sleep last night so I’m pretty exhausted and don’t feel like doing much more reading.
December 1, 2011 at 9:24 pm #21731Completed an hour and a half of studying today. After missing a couple days over Thanksgiving, I’ve been hungry for Japanese this week. No matter how much I study, I keep wanting to do more. I hope this lasts for awhile!
December 2, 2011 at 5:47 am #21743Have been doing some Hiragana flashcards at work today, during any downtime I get. However, it’s becoming clear to me this week that unless I really knuckle down, it’s going to take me forever to get these in my head.
So… this weekend is Hiragana weekend. I at least need to get all the main ones memorised perfectly, so I can focus on the dakuten and combi ones next week.
This is really holding me back, as I know I can’t go much further on Textfugu until this is done. I’ve naughtily been distracting myself from the task with audio lessons… so no more!December 2, 2011 at 10:37 am #21754I just finished ultimate verbs, I’m gonna spend the next 2 days just reviewing Anki decks, doing 150 cards each day on Read the Kanji and reading one of my books, then start ultimate adjectives on Monday which I should have done by Friday, it looks like there’s only around 200 on that list and I already know quite a lot of them.
I’ll probably start ultimate nouns the Monday after next and hopefully have that done the following Friday. I think when I finish all the ultimate lists I’m going to increase the amount of cards on Read the Kanji to 300 per day, I’m also going to finish off TextFugu. After that I’ll probably start making my own Anki decks with extra vocab and read the entirety of this sentence patterns book.
December 2, 2011 at 11:12 am #21762Now with a new name due to the other Mark complaining, and since he was here first I will just change mine over ^^
Not done anything other than reviews due to well… The fact that it is friday and I have better stuff to do ^^December 3, 2011 at 8:37 am #21859So today I reached 100 kanji on RTK, feeling like RTK is the way to go when it comes to kanji, it is so much easier than textfugu, and once I am done I will know the meaning of all kanji ^^ Looking forward to that :D
Did a lesson about と思う, and will do a lang-8 entry to get some training with it later – will post here once I am done :)If anyone are actually reading this, here is a little fun(and easy) sentence taken from freshverse.com ‘s stream ^^
see if you can translate.右がパチンと打てますね
パチン = with a snap
The kanji is easy, so there shouldn’t be a need to be looking up!- This reply was modified 12 years, 11 months ago by マーク・ウェーバー.
December 3, 2011 at 9:41 am #21867Finished Step 3 of Core 2k vocab after days of staying at 590, so now I know 600 words :o
I took a 5 day break of not learning anything and just reviewing and immersing. I gotta say I feel a lot more motivated now! Breaks are awesome.December 3, 2011 at 9:54 am #21872300 cards on Read the Kanji done, according to that I’m nearly “strong” with every kanji in JLPT4.
and then I just reviewed Anki decks, I’m all set to start ultimate adjectives on Monday. I’m not too sure what I’ll use for vocab after this, I might just use Read the Kanji even more than I do now as it includes vocab from each JLPT level. (and a lot of it!)
