Spent the weekend throwing various hiragana websites/phone apps/flashcards at my brain. Am fairly confident on the main ones now, so will be moving onto the dakuten and combos this week. Looking forward to getting all this done… *shakes fist at tedious kana*

I started ultimate adjectives today and got around 30 done, which was easy because I knew half of them already, then did 150 cards on Read the Kanji and did a bunch of reviews on ultimate verbs. Quite nice to see the adjectives list is only 198 words long and I know almost half already from doing na and i adjectives in the past.

Should have this done by Thursday then I think I’ll take it easy for a few days just using Read the Kanji and doing reviews, then I’ll start ultimate nouns next Monday and once I finish those I’ll just be finishing off TextFugu and finishing this sentence pattern book.

I feel a lot better about Japanese than before, I was only doing a few words a day which was making the ultimate lists drag on so much, and I wasn’t doing any TextFugu lessons alongside them, so now that I am getting through the lists so much quicker I’m not worrying about doing straight vocab for a month.

    @Missing
My handwriting is equally awe full: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5223862/Photo%2006-12-11%2016.12.55.jpg

    What are you writing with?
    I am using a pencil :p
RTK is going great, really happy that I bought the book and started doing it ^^ Once I have done RTK I can finally stop learning words in their hiragana form, and learn them in a proper way. I am looking forward to that :D
Even the higher stroke kanji can be learned easily, though I haven’t learned anything above 19 stroke yet …

I’m getting RTK for Christmas… pretty excited about that ^^

In other news… I’ve been drilling Hiragana today on a pretty good Android app I found called Obenkyo. It’s got a colour coded bar that is slowly filling up with more green than red/orange as it deems me to have learnt them. Quite encouraging.
Have moved onto Dakuten but haven’t given it a lot of time yet. Hoping to be done with Hiragana completely by the end of the weekend.

Been super busy with moving to a new state/ studying for finals/ doubling my hours at work (excuses :P). So I haven’t been advancing as much on Textfugu, although I was introduced to readthekanji.com about a week ago and have been doing 150 (or more if I get distracted with doing good at it) everyday. As well as keeping up with Anki daily. Looking forward to ordering the Sentence Patterns book soon.
And with the move and finals (and school) being over by next Friday, I’m really looking forward to focusing more time/ energy on Japanese :].

Lots of downtime at work today, which I have been taking advantage of.

Started drilling dakuten on realkana.com, but it wasn’t getting me very far (I’m not in the zone today!). However I’ve found that chucking myself into the deep end a little with them is helping. Have moved onto the Yoda grammar part of season 1 and having to force myself to work out the dakuten in things like いちごです is helping a lot. I already knew about ですfrom doing Michel Thomas, so could really focus on the actual writing/understanding of the kana.

That’s also the first time I’ve actually used the Japanese IME on my computer to write something coherent… yays ^^

Today I had a major milestone in Anki. For the first time, I reviewed a card that is now due in over TWO YEARS. I have plenty of cards that are due in 1.x years, but that was the first time I’ve set a card to be reviewed in 2.1 years. Very cool!

I finished ultimate adjectives and just took a look at ultimate nouns, was pretty pleased to find there’s only 5 groups to do, I’ll have that done today and then I can finish TextFugu and focus on grammar for a little while. I think I’ll start making my own Anki deck with around 40 useful phrases, after that I’ll just use Read the Kanji for vocabulary from here on.

All this vocab cramming has earned me some Skyrim. I’m off to be scared witless by virtual spiders.

Winter, congrats on your >2 years due card! That is very, very cool!

I am going through Core 1000 sentences, extracting vocab and grammar from each sentence, reading TextFugu chapters, and doing RTK over again :( I had a two months pause in Anki RTK reviews and decided to start from scratch. At least now I know what type of primitives/stories I should avoid not to create confusion later on.

@Yggbert: On the topic of Skyrim, yesterday while I was studying over at Reviewing the Kanji page I came across the story for 武 (warrior) kanji: “I used to be a WARRIOR like you. Then I had to STOP after I took AN ARROW to the knee.” XD

I used to like that meme.

…then I took an arrow in the knee.

    p.s. Skyrim archery is fun!

Been a while since I’ve made a journal.
@マーク So your hand writing is filled with awe? That’s pretty arrogant :P

Also, I see some people are starting with RTK. All I have to say is “Best Choice Evah” to you.

Was a bit slack this weekend… however I did go to a Japanese restaurant, and tried my hand at reading various words on menus/signs.
Back on the studying tomorrow as I have the day off work to recover from our work Christmas party. I’m sure there’s no better hangover cure than Textfugu (!)

@winterpromise: Well done! :D I only started using Anki at the start of the year, so it’ll be a LONG time before I get any >2 years cards haha; I think the most I’ve had so far is 1.3 years :D However, as for Koohii, I’m getting close to 1400 cards in the “Seven+ reviews” pile (with 2067 in the “Four+ reviews” pile)! :D

Got uni exams this week and next, so haven’t had as much time as I’d liked for Japanese :/ A few days where I’ve had to NOT DO ALL MY ANKI REVIEWS! :O Which is pretty shocking since I don’t think I’ve *ever* intentionally done that! haha

I love it when my Japanese skills are really useful.
