@MisterM2402 – That was one of the first words I learned so I don’t either, I just thought it also sounded really funny, sun book language, but I think yours stills wins, The fly-go-machine >_<.
March 20, 2012 at 3:02 am #28169I’m almost done wrapping up RTK. Reviews suck for this thing, whenever I’m at my girlfriends house I don’t do reviews which means after 3 or so days I end up having to do 300+ reviews. It’s painful. She’s in Japan till next month so I’m back to being a productive member of society. (for now)
March 24, 2012 at 8:59 am #28430I finally bought 3 books mentioned in this thread, Breaking into Japanese Literature, Exploring Japanese literature, and Read Real Japanese. I’m starting with Exploring Japanese literature but jkl is right it’s very hard.
It’s nice, though, to see everything put together naturally. You can learn all the grammar and vocab you want but putting them together to form a natural sounding sentence is difficult and example sentences can only get you so far, so seeing -real- sentences is extremely helpful.
April 2, 2012 at 4:42 am #28802Finished part 3 of core2k – took exactly 20 days :s
almost 1/3 done wuhuApril 2, 2012 at 7:50 am #28805Finished RtK the day before my vacation, now I can relax and enjoy reviews. =)
FEELS GREAT!!
April 15, 2012 at 10:16 pm #29385Just hit the last card in RTK (again). Coincidentally, it’s almost a year exactly since I finished it the first time. Life hit pretty hard last summer and I hardly studied at all. I was frequently seeing kanji I should know but didn’t and getting frustrated. I started up RTK again at around the start of the year I think…at times adding 200 a day then going for weeks without adding any. My consistency is all gone. Now that I’ve finally finished again, I’m going to try the core 6000 (again). I’ve tried to get going on it in the past but always found it unbearably boring. I was inspired by hypnocrown’s thread about iknow and decided to sign up for it and go through the decks. Maybe the pretty colors and sound effects will keep me engaged. It might sound superficial, but that kind of thing can make a big difference. I’m surprised that anki doesn’t have downloadable skins(does it?). Anyway, so it’s Core 6000 and continuing on with the Soumatome N3 books (the target for both of these is the end of October). Then practice tests, review for a month and take N3 in December.
April 15, 2012 at 10:45 pm #29386April 16, 2012 at 4:10 am #29392@kyle – iKnow is really useful.. not just for it’s appealing blue and orange colors (http://www.slashfilm.com/orangeblue-contrast-in-movie-posters/) – But that it provides you with sound for the word (plus you get a nice reading for the Kanji with that) – It also gives you 1/2 example sentences for each word.. I’ve been using it well over this weekend, combining it with Jisho and KanjiDamge (when I come across a Kanji, I just look it up, get a mnemonic and then end up remembering it – Much more fun and productive than RTK – At least it’s a more natural way to go through Kanji, as and when you come across them)
I’ve always been a little dubious about RTK “Here’s 2000+ Kanji and some ways in which the author remembered them (over the process a couple of years, while living in Japan) – Here, take six months and study soley that” – Meh. – Gives me no feeling of context or how the Kanji is used.. I’d rather just learn it as and when I come across it. e.g. 時間 – Hadn’t come across either of these Kanji yet in either textfugu or RTK – However I now know that 時 means time and has a reading of じ - 間 – Means space(position)/time and has a reading of かん – I have about 100 radicals that I’ve got from textfugu in my head.. I don’t have that word in Anki.. and reviewed it about 3 times over the weekend.. It’s positively in my head thanks to iKnow..
Meh, thats just how i’ve been working recently and it’s WAY more productive than RTK – then learn the readings – then learn the jukugo – then apply it all in one go..
Fluidity and natural absorbtion is the way to go.. I love textfugu – but strugle with the Vocab – the core1000 on iKnow seems the be about the same as ultimatevocab decks – not loosing out either way.
April 16, 2012 at 6:37 am #29396@missing – I hate that.
And for no reason: this.April 16, 2012 at 6:56 am #29398New oshi?
I didn’t know any AKB members spoke English, came as a big surprise lol 0.o Guess you are hoping she gets in to one of the teams? :PApril 16, 2012 at 8:55 am #29399NAH BRO, THATS JUST WHAT I WANT YOU TO THINK.
if she doesn’t get into a team, i will hold TGSK hostage
April 16, 2012 at 6:48 pm #29524@missingno15‘s link: Kill it! Before it lays eggs!!
…but seriously, that voice hurts my ears. The way she speaks in English is slightly more bearable, however :P
April 17, 2012 at 12:09 am #29539@Missing After 3 weeks in Japan, I’ve come to realize just how popular Akb seems to be, but I still don’t really understand it. What’s the “target audience”? How did they start? How did you get interested in them? What genre is their music? WHY ARE THERE SO MANY OF THEM!!?
April 17, 2012 at 12:32 am #29540^
http://newschoolkaidan.com/daes-idol-101/Not really keen on telling my whole life story with AKB, just because we would start to get a little sidetracked here. If everyone doesn’t mind I will.
April 17, 2012 at 7:03 pm #29652@missingno15: Go for it. I’d be interested to hear :)
