I just finished reading Bakuman 1. It’s a story about some school kids who want to write their own comics. I bought both English and Japanese versions and just looked at the translation when I didn’t understand something. The Japanese version has furigana on all kanji, which is nice.
May 6, 2012 at 11:02 pm #30387Back in the saddle after a week trip to the States. On very little sleep and jet-lagged, the perfect conditions to take on the mountain of reviews I’ve been neglecting. The good news is that I now have a place to live this fall.
May 7, 2012 at 3:27 am #30394Today a Danish teacher teaching at Tohoku University did a presentation about studying there. Pretty interesting, and I thought it was an excellent way to make a fool of myself, (to be honest I can’t remember why I thought of doing this), either way I wanted to ask a question, so I thought why not ask in Japanese? Well, I went with the idea, and said this:
質問があります。まず、先生は日本語が話せますか。It then turned out he couldn’t and just threw a sentence at me, which he must have gotten used to saying a lot. I can’t remember exactly what he said, but basically it was that he wanted me to speak English. So I went ahead and asked my question in English, only for him to then say that it was fine and I could’ve just spoken in Danish.
Was pretty fun, and the look from all the other students was priceless :P – and Tohoku looked pretty interesting.May 9, 2012 at 6:01 am #30466Ok, back to posting so that I have some accountability. I am still out of town and have no daily routine right now but I’m going to pledge to study for at least 20 minutes per day. That should be doable and is a vast improvement over nothing…
Today’s goal – 20 minutes of Anki flashcards just to get some quick review. I only have 2,541 cards due.
May 9, 2012 at 6:31 pm #30494I dread to think how long 2541 cards would take to clear…
May 9, 2012 at 6:36 pm #30496i’m currently on season 2 section 5….taking my sweet time…don’t want to burn myself out and then get overwhelmed and quit(like i usually do) :P i’m getting there though! I’m trying to study as much as I can everyday…The problem is staying motivated and having enough energy :P

This facebook page is aimed towards Japanese speakers learning English but since I keep in touch with the creator (who has written 2 books and holds a PhD and masters degree), he put out 2 videos aimed at people learning Japanese to correct their 外人臭い発音。

LOL. I will let you know… Finished my 20 minutes and ran out of time. My battery died while at the hospital this evening and I forgot to take my charger. Oops. 2,479 cards left to go.

May 10, 2012 at 2:37 am #30529I’m now near the end of section 7 in season 2…i love textfugu lol. knowing the why’s and how’s is definitely getting me to learn faster than any of the other approaches. Thank YOU!!!!! <3 i need sleeeeep tho ;.; lol
May 10, 2012 at 3:33 pm #30551Finished my 20 minutes of Anki. Down to 2,332 cards. Yesterday I was tripping over some of the simplest material but today I could feel some of it coming back. I was getting worried. :P
May 10, 2012 at 9:23 pm #30554Which reminds me, I’m terrified to fire up Anki. I wouldn’t be half surprised to find summat like 10,000 cards due at this point. X)
May 11, 2012 at 4:18 am #30560Gigatron, how long has it been since you last opened Anki? If the number is overwhelming, you can always suspend most of the cards until you get caught up with the ones that aren’t suspended. I’ve considered doing that. lol.
May 11, 2012 at 4:41 pm #30618I finished my 20 minutes of Anki, wish I had more time to study today. Down to 2,162 cards.
