Well, if it makes you feel better.. before I start Season 3 I am going to go back through everything and make sure it is concrete in my brain. I hate feeling like I am moving too fast, so I’m trying to go at a snail’s pace.

On another note, I wrote my first Lang-8 post and it was SO messy. Even more of a reason to go back and study everything (を and に particles in particular) Also, I learned that it’s actually possible to overuse です。 (I didn’t.. actually neglected to put it after one of my sentences.) :/

I thought putting です after every sentence would be excessive and a nice person pointed out that it could indeed be.. but in that case I should have put it.

I also learned how to write my name in カタカナ。 Yay.

    リンディ!

But… it made me a little discouraged. The things I thought I knew… I just couldn’t write them when I tried. I kinda of… froze, for a long time. :(

Maybe I am trying to over complicate things, but it really makes me question what I have really learned, or what has really stuck. So I guess the best thing to do is go back over everything that is iffy in my brain. It’s mostly how to position words/particles and what to add/what to leave out. I also got は and が confused (I was so sure I had THOSE sorted out, too).

    /discouraged.

Lemur – I feel the same way. I think the knowledge is there, but it’s hard to practice getting it out on paper. Reading the Textfugu lessons, you’re almost always going from Japanese –> English. The focus is mostly on comprehension. There isn’t much practice writing your own sentences until season 3. So when you try to produce something, it’s hard to think of what to say, the necessary grammar, and then you run into any potential vocab limitations. At this point, it’s easier to understand something that is being said TO YOU or heard than it is to write or speak in Japanese to someone else. We are focused more on input than output.

Basically, I think the answer is just more and more practice. That will get the knowledge from your brain to your mouth and your hand. Don’t give up! We’ll get there. :)

Ahhh, so I am not mentally impaired.

When I read the example sentences and such, I understand why they are the way they are… I can even easily do all of the worksheets and have (most) of the vocab memorized. It makes sense that I can’t write very well since I’ve not been focused on producing sentences of my own; thank you for opening my eyes.

I don’t regret trying, because I definitely learned a lot from the nice people who corrected me. :)

Sadly, I won’t be able to get to Season 3 anytime soon. My sub runs out in a day or so, and due to some bad things that happened I won’t be able to pay for another month for a little bit. Probably a good thing though, so I am forced to go back over the things that were giving me trouble and practice more.

Went over the は and が lesson again. It had been a while and I only read over it once then… I feel a lot better about it. I also made some of my own sentences to get it into my brain better. :)

Lemur – you are definitely not mentally impaired. ;) If you are finishing up season 2 (and have only used Textfugu for learning) then you won’t have much practice with output. I think that’s a big part of season 3 – getting practice producing your own sentences. I hope you get to come back soon!

Today – I went over the colors lesson and the season 2 review. I’ll probably take me a couple more days to finish up the Season 2 massive Anki list and then I’ll move on to Season 3. Monday? Sunday? Hopefully soon. I’m still behind on my RTK reviews but I am keeping up with everything that is not overdue and very slowly adding back the cards that are overdue. Anki and I are best friends right now and I’m not sure I like that!

I am in the process of reviewing 4 stroke kanji vocabulary. I’ve pretty much got all the vocab before that (except a few i and na adjectives… which I’m practicing) down. I’m taking it slowly and learning all vocabulary before moving on… so tomorrow I should get to the “What do you want?” chapter… Oh boy, almost done with season 2!!!

On a side note I can’t believe I know 68 kanji and their on’yomi(plus vocab)!

    Just finished Season 2. :)

I will spend a few days reviewing vocab, kanji and katakana before starting Season 3.

Sounds like a lot of people are studying around the same lessons in Textfugu. Cool!

I’ve finished season 2 but I’m trying to finish up all the vocab. I think I still have 120 cards left and I’m going to try to get through all of them tomorrow. Some of the cards are review and others are new (kanji vocab is mostly new). I’m hoping that I can start season 3 on Sunday or Monday. That would be fun!

How did you find the adverbs lesson, Cassandra? Useful, huh? :)

After today’s Koohii reviews, the number of cards in the 6-review column has JUST overtaken the 5-review column – I’m so pleased :P Once a big majority of cards are in the 6-review box, those reviews are goin’ DOWN! (in both senses of the word)

Got the Ultimate Adjectives deck all sorted out how I like it and printed off sheets from the Excel file (after a LOT of shifting about to fit on 3 sheets of paper haha) which are to be laminated and stuck on the wall behind me, right beside the Ultimate Verbs and (soon to be laminated, too) Ultimate Nouns #1. Studied the first two groups last night – in the first group, there was only 1 word out of 10 that I hadn’t seen on TextFugu before :D

The adverbs lesson was awesome. Very useful! I didn’t know all of the vocab but I’m slowly getting it down.

Michael – Great job on the RTK reviews!! That’s awesome!! I’m starting to print lists and tape them up on the wall too. ;)

Sinister – Keep plugging along! You’re doing good. :)

Missing – Why are you yelling? :P I’m watching anime, j-dorama, listening to music, a few podcasts, looking at websites, etc. I can understand bits and pieces but I still feel a lot of the grammar is beyond what I know… motivation to learn more! :)

@Missing: NOT CONSTANTLY, BUT YES, I LIKE TO EXPOSE MYSELF TO REAL JAPANESE PEOPLE!! I BOUGHT THIS TRENCH COAT, RIGHT–
