Hattori, I’d never seen that sight before but I’ve been on it all day since you posted the link. It’S actually quite a bit of fun. Maybe that’s just because I’ve only been doing the JLPT4 words though…anyway, it’s more interesting than anki. I think a nice GUI update (skins or something) would make going through anki much less tedious.
In response to your question about putting things in Heisig order, if you give me a few days I could throw an anki deck together for the core2000 vocab sorted by Heisig order with the frame numbers and keywords on the answer side and link to it if you want.
June 29, 2011 at 7:52 am #13380Yeah, that site is so much fun! I’m glad you like it :) I actually like the simplicity of Anki interface, but I’ve never used it for studying, only for reviews.
That deck sounds like a great idea! Would there be an entire sentence or a single kanji on question side?

June 29, 2011 at 8:32 am #13382Spending time some casually on yahoo jp. I’ve been going on chatrooms there since I started learning Japanese at all. So its great remembering when I barely knew hiragana today while I was having a VERY casual conversation today about how someone else in the chatroom was a complete idiot lol. Sure beats お名前は?
June 29, 2011 at 9:59 am #13386sounds fun we should go on together some time
June 29, 2011 at 10:20 am #13391Review the Japanese words from ages ago (with the kanji if I learned the word with the kanji) – this’ll be as easy as anything as I do remember them but it’s nice to refresh the mind.
We’re currently translating a story about this girl called Heidi and we’re translating one page per lesson. Next week she’s testing us on the first page (HELP ME!) so tomorrow I’m going to look up the words which I don’t really understand her translation/meaning to (it might take a while to do this) and then create an Anki deck with all the words and translations/meanings.
Then, it’s simply review review review!
June 30, 2011 at 12:11 am #13447Sure Missing! Although you’re probably gonna laugh at my username lol
June 30, 2011 at 3:06 pm #13524Going away on holiday for a week tomorrow, taking Anki with me on a laptop :3 Can’t bear to let the cards pile up XD Here here for being able to sync Anki through the internet! :D (don’t think I’ll have access to an internet connection, but it just means I’ll be able to bring all my updated cards back easily)
Adieu! (but no, I’m not going to France hehe)
June 30, 2011 at 3:53 pm #13536Going through a couple of lessons of Irasshai per day. Lots of comprehensible input.
June 30, 2011 at 6:36 pm #13543Ultimate verbs 1: Groups 5/5 (Words 100/100) (reviewing)
Ultimate adjectives: Groups 18/19 (Words 180/197)
Ultimate verbs: Groups 9/26 (Words 90/260)
Lesson: A bit of the expectation lesson
Kanji: 5-Stroke Group-3 (Reviewing so I don’t forget)And I may be going to my uncle’s wedding tomorrow (the whole weekend) so I’ll be taking my laptop with anki as well =)… but it’s still a might… you see there’s this hurricane named Arlene…
July 3, 2011 at 3:54 pm #13600I ordered “Genki” to run through. I don’t think it should take that long since most of it should be review but I thought reviewing via different resources might give a more rounded understanding. The review begins today!
Oh and Hattori, I didn’t get a chance to look at that deck for a while and then when I tried my computer kept crashing. (Sorting an excel spreadsheet with 15 million cells over 2000 times was a bit too taxing I guess. There’s probably a better way to do it, without using a giant cumbersome program like Excel, but I don’t know how.) My computer at home should be able to swing it though so I can give it a shot tonight.
July 3, 2011 at 6:23 pm #13603More Irasshai. 1 – 2 hrs per day. I also got to speak with two Japanese friends at a BBQ today.
July 6, 2011 at 3:51 am #13724Some of us are watching Japanese tv gameshows and some of them are awesome study! lol

July 10, 2011 at 10:53 am #13889Just finished chapter 12 from season 1. I feel so so so so begginer x) But just have to keep on going… One day I’ll be able to write a lang8 journal xD
July 10, 2011 at 9:31 pm #13902SO recently I ordered the Genki 1 textbook to review things I’ve already learned from a new vantage point and to pick up a few new things. The first thing I did was flip the the last dialogue section to see if I could understand it. As it turns out I already know pretty much everything in the book. Although I’m kind of bummed that I wasted the money, it’s encouraging to know that I’ve made it through what amounts to a year’s worth of of university study on my own in comparable time. Perhaps I’ve been underestimating my actual ability. Japanese people have told me quite a few times that my Japanese is pretty good but I always just took it as polite nonsense. I’ve been in Japan for almost a year now, maybe it’s time to actually try speaking Japanese regularly. Now, if only I knew some words…
