@Kyle: a years worth in university isnt much, as it really ramps up in the 2nd year. Like you literally spend a semester learning kana and a few basic things.

But yeah I think I’ve seen your Japanese before and its pretty good right? Plus living in Japan means you’ve got ways to study so go do it! >_>

Oh also I asked my Japanese friends this but I’d love to hear about your experience with this from a non-native perspective.

    今の日本にあるほとんどラーメン屋は機械で注文するの?

    ほとんど ・ most, almost, nearly
    屋 ・ shop, seller, house
    機械 ・ machine
    注文 ・ order

(This is better than providing a translation to other people who wanna get in on the conversation right?)

I think the te-iru form is used when other people are thinking about something….I could be wrong.

I did use the te-iru form though ^^ although it was for what I was thinking.

I am back from my 3 week vacation and now have to get back into the swing of things. Eek! So much to catch up on. Oh, well. I think today I’ll spend 30 minutes working through some of the Anki goals that are way overdue and then listen to a jpod101 lesson. No point in burning out on the first day back. :P

I hope everyone else is doing well! I’ll see about catching up on forum posts over the next few days as well… :)

Not really *that* much catching up to do with the forum; it’s been near-dead since you left… ;)

    Oh, and welcome back haha

The work of a 翻訳者 is a tough one, especially if you’re just a !beginner! You know with deadlines and what not.

Welcome back Cassandra! Was starting to get worried for a second

@missingno15: That’s RTK paying off again – I knew that word was “translator” without actually knowing it haha :)
And instead of calling yourself a “Beginner”, can you not choose a *different* one of their songs to name yourself after, just for a little variety? Perhaps “Baby! Baby! Baby!” or “Bingo!”? “Bingo!” was his name-o, after all.

    (I kid, I kid)

I thought you died or something, Cassandra. It’s nice to see you back! :)

Aaah, just finished my last Japanese lesson with my tutor (until September 7th) and I have only 2 days left of School now that I’m back from The Netherlands.

She also gave me a list of things I could do online, which I will be doing. I might start back up with TextFugu and maybe even do RTK. So many choices for these next 6 weeks.

OH WAIT. Make it 4 because I’m going to be in Turkey for 16 days nearing the end of August. That means no RTK for me. :(

    Hmm…

The forums have been dead?? on no!

Kaona – You’re going to Turkey! How cool! I’ve only been around the US and to Mexico. :(

Today’s studying – lots of Anki, started back on RTK reviews (yuck), and listened to a lesson on jpod101. Other than RTK overload, I don’t feel like I’ve lost anything from not reviewing the past 3 weeks. Is that a good thing? lol

@winterpromise31: I’ve never even left the UK, so don’t feel bad :P

I know it’s quite an old post, but what is meant by the「今の日本にあるほとんどラーメン屋」part of the sentence「今の日本にあるほとんどラーメン屋は機械で注文するの?」? Also, isn’t「の」quite a feminine way to end a sentence (unless followed by だ or です)?
