Hello hello, all.
I’m at the point in Season 1 where I am creating the 20 word vocab list of my passion, which is writing, as in writing stories.
Of course, when I set off to start the dictionary translations, I run into a conundrum with the very first word on my list: theme.
I took a screencap of the dictionary results, http://i.imgur.com/6x0e9.png
As you can see, there is a red box and a green box, and the picture is pretty self-explanatory:
テーマ seems to be the closest definition of “theme” as I’m looking for when I dig deeper, but there aren’t any characters in the left-most column, and it’s kanji (I presume) rather than hiragana…
主題 (しゅだい) has the most hits, at 1.5 billion, of “theme” but isn’t nearly as narrow/precise the definition of the literary term I’m looking for, or so it would seem after digging deeper. But, it’s very common and has the hiragana counterpart.
So I’m looking for expert advice: is the 1.5 billion one actually the best definition for literary theme (I hope), or which one should I focus on: the red box one, since it has the hiragana, or just choose a different word for now, or…?
Thanks in advance ^_^
