Hi, I’ve been using the Ultimate Adjectives, Nouns and Verbs decks for some time now in Anki. But, since Koichi has switched to the thankfully much simpler Ultimate Vocab system, I’ve already started importing my previous Ultimate decks into an ‘Ultimate Vocab’ deck.
I’ve been wondering about some stuff though:
1) Do I have to re-learn everything I’ve already mastered?
2) Do I need to reset the ‘Change ‘settings or hide some cards like before to avoid being overwhelmed? (Apparently, the settings are lost when I import the decks.)
3) Do I have to discard the old decks because they’re outdated or do I keep on using them?
I think there’re more, but I can’t think of them right now. Anyway, I’d appreciate any help on these nagging issues.
PS: Koichi, if you’re reading this, I’d appreciate it if you could give a heads-up to people who may be affected by your team’s (always awesome) updates in the future. Thanks. (^_^)
January 13, 2012 at 6:38 am #243411) If you are exporting one deck (e.g. Ultimate Adjectives) and importing it into a new one (Ultimate vocab) you should keep the schedule settings (there is a box to tick when you’re exporting deck). This way, if you had a card due in, let’s say, 2 months in your old deck, it should be due in 2 months in new deck as well.
2) It’s the same as 1) if I’m not missing something.
3) If you imported all cards in the new deck, I see no reason to keep the old deck.- This reply was modified 12 years, 11 months ago by Hatt0ri.
January 14, 2012 at 7:33 am #24376Thanks a lot Hattori, most of my issues have already been solved. However, I would like to point out that even if you import directly from an original .anki file (a file I was using before switching to ‘Ultimate Vocab), the scheduling will still be the same. Exporting the old one and importing it again doesn’t change anything from what I’ve observed.
The settings that Koichi recommended for the ‘Change’ section that appears when you open a deck, however, will be reset no matter what you do. This was the reason for my second question.
As for the third question, I was asking whether the ‘old’ content in the new Ultimate Vocab was outdated or not. If that’s the case, should I get rid of it and start anew (something I really don’t want to do)?
January 15, 2012 at 12:01 am #24413I’m sorry, while answering I presumed that Ultimate Vocab deck contains all the same things as Ultimate Nouns, Adjectives and Verbs, just merged together. It seems it doesn’t? So, I have to admit I don’t quite understand the problem. Well, it doesn’t matter, since you solved the issues already.
January 15, 2012 at 5:29 am #24421It’s okay, I’m sure if there’s something else I’ll just deal with it when it comes.
January 16, 2012 at 10:09 pm #24557He changed it again?
Shoot!January 17, 2012 at 2:17 am #24560@KisukeOboro: It kinda makes things complicated for the short term, but I think it really makes reviewing the Anki decks a much smoother process. Hang on there! 頑張ります!(^O^)/
