Awesome, we all love upgrades!
But with the new seasons I feel a little weird.
Is TextFugu gonna be all that much “shorter” now?
It always felt like there was gonna be whole lot of stuff even after that whole lot of stuff
that’s already there, which made me feel that sticking with the Fugus would get me to
learn… well, a whole lot of stuff.New designs are alwaysrefreshing and I am really looking forward to the new vocab-learning!
I put everything Fugu on hold until it is out and am finishing up RTK in the meantime.
Only ~300 Kanji to go for the odd 2136 joyo (general use) Kanji! Woohoo!I’m really excited for the new vocab and review goodness that is upon us.
September 23, 2011 at 2:49 pm #17637definitely not planning on shortening anything! Just wanted to make each individual season a little more individual. Smaller bites, better reviews, similar/related content within each season, etc! Mostly just made those changes to make the new practice pages moh’beddah!
September 23, 2011 at 4:09 pm #17659Does that mean there is gonna be something like 10+ Seasons now?
Other than that I’m also for improvements. But maybe it’s my screen defenition or something but some things like de dashboard and the seasons tab, have a scroll down thing, inside the normal scroll down thing. And I have to play with both of them to correctly see and use the site. It’s a pain, other have this problem?
September 24, 2011 at 12:31 am #17665Yeah i’e got multiple scroll bars…
September 24, 2011 at 1:17 am #17667God, I’m sorry to be the negative one again, but I just hate it, I’m sorry.
September 24, 2011 at 2:14 am #17669Never play on Patchday =)
September 24, 2011 at 3:14 am #17670Love the new layout of the page and seasons, good ideas with more reviews! :)
Don’t like the new kanji setup… Too much scrolling to get down to the kanji I need… And much harder to find the kanji that you need :/- This reply was modified 13 years, 1 month ago by マーク・ウェーバー.
September 24, 2011 at 6:04 am #17674I believe that the new practive pages for every lesson will be really helpful.
I’ll go back to every point I learned and can review them via these practice pages, refreshing
my memory on them. New users immediately get more training. Win-Win-Situation.I settled to keep my Kanji-learning outsourced (RTK via RevTK).
Looking forward to the vocab-learning changes!
September 24, 2011 at 3:12 pm #17686Less reformatting, MOAR lessons! I’ve already got a “Forever” account but if I didn’t, I’d have left long ago. The only people able to use TextFugu to its full potential are the ones who join once it is all finished (i.e. people in the war against the Terminators) and all the main content has been written, so they get a complete experience from start to finish and don’t have to abandon ship halfway through (to move to a bigger, better ship). I know there is only a captain and his first mate at the moment, but stop painting the figure head and get on with building the rest of the boat! If the boat can’t even get us to Treasure Island, what is the point in making it look pretty or making the crew’s beds more comfy? (These nautical jokes doing anything for ye?)
:P
September 24, 2011 at 10:28 pm #17693Ahh, it’s been a while since I subbed again; I can’t afford it because of college, concerts (yes, my priorities are amazing), and little to no income… waah. Doing fine on my own now though; Textfugu was a fantastic “push”, and now I feel like I am taking off. Although I miss it, so I may come back in the future. I’m curious of the changes!
September 25, 2011 at 5:58 am #17695couldn’t agree more Mister :)
September 25, 2011 at 8:37 pm #17709Mister hit the nail on the head. If I were paying monthly, I’d have given up on this site already. I like the idea and the overall style with which the information is presented but the site goes long periods of time with very little new content and a lot of shifting around and reorganizing of content that is already here. The focus on learning is good but in in terms of what’s available this site compared to something like Tae Kim’s or the forums on RevTK (which are free), the amount of actual material is tiny. I pretty much only log in to check the forums and even they seem to be far less active than before due to (this is only a theory) people running out of things to study on this site and moving on to other resources. I’m curious how long it would take me, starting from scratch, to exhaust the materials on this site. I can only guess, but I would say it would be around four months moving at a moderate pace. Textfugu has a lot of potential to be a great textbook but many of us have been waiting for a long time, through several aesthetic updates, for that potential to materialize.
September 25, 2011 at 9:57 pm #17710I’m in the same boat here. I’m up to date with the lesson. I come to see the forum from time to time. I’m not learning really fast and the learning of the ultimate list on anki is taking me quite some time so that’s good. But when I’ll have finish those, I believe I’ll learn faster than the lesson are out even if I don’t actively study grammar.
That being said, I don’t really mind since textfugu taught me a lot about learning by itself. I discovered techniques, programs and other things that are as important as content for me.
A good way to ”slow down learners” would be to hire a full time kanji employee, same style as now but being full time = a lot of them. And just making a lot of them to learn earlier than it is now. Sure it doesn’t change anything for us who for the most part learn Kanji some others ways, but for helping new people not to run out, it would be a good way…I think.
September 25, 2011 at 10:34 pm #17711Unless your some sort of vocab god, if you start from scratch it should take a good while to finish the current content. The lessons themselves don’t take a huge amount of times but the ‘ultimate’ lists alone are taking a great deal of time for me personally. If you combine that with the fact that ideally your studying some kanji and practicing grammar and whatnot there should be more than enough for the beginner.
On top of that, depending what we actually get when the practice pages are released they should be all kinds of useful. I can’t deny that it would be nice to see a more content based balance between content and style but unless your already near the end, in which case you should probably be finding additional study methods and techniques anyway, its not going to make a huge amount of difference.
September 26, 2011 at 6:05 am #17716The only complaint I have is about the new coloration. This gray-ish color = a bit sad and disheartening :<
