I have been vaguely interested in learning Japanese (mainly for anime/manga reasons) for quite a few years, and have visited Japan a couple of times, but since I am moving to Japan for 2 years in October, it seemed like a good time to get a bit more serious. I know that immersing myself there will help no end, but I want some solid basics down before I go.

a bit about me? I am 33, Australian, do science as a job, but have a passion for the fashion, food, and the arts. I have a more than passing fancy for musical theatre.
