About the phone app, “Human Japanese”?
I bought it quite a while ago and found it pretty smart but I wanna know if anybody else has used it or still uses it and finds no error(s) in it?
Oh and hello, people of TextFugu! I’m hoping to meet some cool people on here.
Does my avatar show? I got a little confused on how to get Gravatar running.

I just downloaded the lite version (chapters 1-8). I've already covered all the language, but I'll probably buy the full version because it looks promising. The cultural texts are a nice feature and the numbers quiz mode is cute.
Thanks for the tip.
No errors in lite btw.July 22, 2012 at 5:45 pm #33457I bought it a while ago and usually pull it out when I’m waiting for something or traveling. I really like the little cultural notes as well, I found the notes on pronunciation really useful, and I like that it shows how to write the characters because that really helped me distinguish similar characters and helped me learn them faster.
Overall I think it is a good sort of beginner’s crash course. The only complaint I have is that it completely neglects kanji. At the end he reiterates that the app covers just some of the basics and that much further study is required, but I’d recommend it.

^ I’m not sure about uses on the internet. I’m sorry I can’t help in return!
How did you type this, anyway? Did you just copy and paste or do you have a nifty keyboard programme? But yeah, if you think it looks promising, I guess that means I can rely on the tips for pronunciation and writing when I’m out and about.
Thankyou for your reply!

Ah, this is handy to know! I had a feeling people on here would be know what’s legitimate. Thankyou!
If I recall correctly, didn’t the author (at the end) say he’s developing an “update” or “new app” which will cover advanced lessons?
You know anything about this?Thanks

You know anything about this?Apparently a Human Japanese Intermediate is in the works, and will probably be out sometime this year. There is a Facebook group for Human Japanese where they post monthly updates about the development of it and they also post a lot of little culture notes and word of the day stuff, so you might be interested in following.

Also, I’m pretty sure I remember reading that the Intermediate app would include kanji, so I am interested to see how it turns out.

It is possible to type in Japanese on any keyboard using an IME.
Koichi teaches it on the end of the fourth season: http://www.textfugu.com/season-4/social-learning/9-2/
I think it is very useful to know how to do it from the start, though. If you have the time, spend 20 minutes setting it up, it is definitely worth it.August 1, 2012 at 7:40 am #33859Alejandro,
Thank you for this information! I may have to follow the page, yes! I’m interested to see how the kanji part works out, too. I wanna know what methods the guy uses, cause I remember him sneaking in a little hint of his way with kanji at the end of the first app.
Durub,
Thanks alot for this. I’ll have to set it up very soon, though I may wait a while before using it as I can read Hiragana characters but don’t have a very wide vocabulary in the Japanese language.
Cheers again!
August 15, 2012 at 3:58 pm #34514I like the lite version, it’s nice when you’re waiting somehwere and what not. I used the control panel to set up keyboards. Control Panel -> Clock, Language, Region -> Change keyboards or other input methods -> Click “Change Keyboards” -> Hit “Add” -> Scroll down to Japanese (or hit J for faster search) -> Double click to open the +, and under Keyboard, again double click, you should see Japanese and Microsoft IME. Select those two and confirm. Apply -> Ok, and you are good to go with the Language bar on your task bar. Single click brings up the menu of English or Japanese. I only use the basic input. You’ll see a button Japanese with a keyboard icon, click it and select IME, this will bring up lots of buttons. Select the one that says Hiragana for Hiragana, but be warned I have found to not use kanji(if you dont know it yet) don’t hit the space bar between words, otherwise it will input kanji, and that’s not always correct. Just click with the mouse, that will select the text you’ve written and not exchange it for Kanji. It has Katakana on there as well. To write in regular type, just go back to the button that says IME and select the Japanese with the keyboard icon.
Sorry it’s wordy, it really only takes but a minute to change things.
Hope this helps someone.
