Sorry if one of these is made already. Nevertheless, just wanted an exact translation of phrases such as 二人 でしたか？ or 一人 でした ? I know they are simple but I just wasn’t sure of the exact meaning. Would it be “Was there one person?” and “Were there two people?”
*oops, the second one isn’t a question. So “There was one person.” for that?
Meaning can depend on context. But yeah, “were there two people?” “There was one person” is an accurate translation.
It could also be (say) “did you both go?” “No, I went alone.”
