I thought those sentences with audio were great to hammer home new grammar and vocab. Im in season five now and havent seen any sentences to add in a long time. Are they just not around anymore?
I mean he has the audio and sentences from those example sentences. Why not just make them as anki decks?
April 6, 2014 at 1:01 am #44772I thought the same. I don’t think it have to be that many sentences. 2 or 3 for each grammar point would be enough I think.
I cases where I’m not sure about whether I would remember it, I’ve added 1 or 2 myself.August 23, 2014 at 3:57 am #46357I feel a little abandoned :-( The sentences were the centre of the experience for me, the bit that was really doing the trick. The way our brain works, it’s a lot easier to remember “さとうはじてんしゃじゃありません” than any of the individual concepts therein. After the sentences stopped, my progress slowed considerably…
I guess the idea is that we should have enough basics now to go “social learning” on lang-8 or shadowing J-Pop or whatever? I find I don’t, though.
August 24, 2014 at 1:15 am #46369Ive actually made some more anki decks from Textfugu sentences by downloading the sound file and copying the sentence + meaning.
Its very far from complete though. A few chapters in between have no sentences whatsoever since at that point I didnt think of to do this. Also plenty of laziness on my part. Plus, I took the freedom to replace the kana with kanji where I felt it was too easy. (Ofc on the back side you get the furigana)
If you want it, I can upload it. I hope Koichi is okay with it though theoretically this forum should only be accessed by those with a subscription so…
August 25, 2014 at 7:05 pm #46381oooh that’s brilliant. From when did you start? If Koichi-san is ok that we make this a thing, I might volunteer to go back and do the ones you missed (especially if your starting point is ahead of where I am in the book) — after all I need them in order to hammer in some of the vocabulary I’m struggling with from the last 3 or 4 lessons.
August 26, 2014 at 3:40 am #46383Im afraid the gap is quite big.
As far as I can tell you get the last sentence deck from Textfugu at the end of Chapter 3.
I started at Chapter 6 Lesson 3. It should be semi-complete up till the last chapter. There might be a few lessons where I didnt add anything because I felt it was too obvious. At some points I ddint order them nicely into Chapter-Lessons and instead put them in previous decks because I felt they belonged there. Oh and aforementioned laziness.
I usually added around 2 sentences from each grammatical point unless I felt more were necessary or when there was a word I didnt know.If you want to make up for the gap in Ch. 4 and 5, use the template “Japanese” when creating new cards. Its the one that Koichi uses for his sentences.

(hope Koichi is okay with this)September 8, 2014 at 12:30 pm #46451I just came here to ask the same question–the sentence packs have been the most valuable thing about TextFugu for me so far (I’m just starting Season 4 now). I’m sorry to see them stop.
September 27, 2014 at 6:28 pm #46539Has anybody else compiled a textfugu deck of a few example sentences starting from the beginning of Season 4? If so I’d be incredibly grateful. I too feel that the sentence examples were very helpful in hammering the knowledge home. Without the sentence decks we’re essentially learning new information but seldom getting the chance to review it.
My trouble is that having gone through the particles を、に, etc. I have begun to forget how exactly to use them.
The same can be said of the conjugations for the い adjectives, etc.
Otherwise I might pick up where Koichi-san left off and compile a list of sentences and decks myself. Please do let me know if this has been done already, however!
At the very least I can do with the practice :’)
