    Hello everyone!

    I’ve been self-studying for awhile but I feel like I need some extra help to keep me going so I’m looking towards Textfugu for help.

    I know how to read and write Hiragana, Katakana, and around 50-100 basic Kanji. I know how the sentence structure works, and most of the irregular verbs. But I don’t know too many nouns. I would say my level would be the same as finishing Genki Elementary book 1. I finished the Nakama book 1, but I don’t think many people know those books, ahaha.

    Would anyone be willing to help me find the write season or lesson to start on?
    Thank you!

    I did Nakama. =)

    Sadly, I’ve forgotten exactly where Nakama 1 stops, and I haven’t got them on me to check. Maybe just skim through TextFugu until you hit something you don’t understand, and read that in more detail?

    P.S. “Most of the irregular verbs”? There’s only two of them. =P

    I would say the same as Joel. Skim until you don’t understand something.
    I can imagine it is annoying not to know where to start.

    My curiosity tells me to ask you a question. I just read your introduction and wondered, I bought TF four years ago and it’s fist now you are going to begin using it?
    Don’t get me wrong, I’m just curious not offensive.

    I haven’t actually done Genki myself, but from what I can tell, if you’ve finished it then TextFugu will be too basic for you – this site is for *absolute* beginners. Maybe the Ultimate Vocabulary Anki decks would be good but I’m not sure about the rest of the content.

    @Joel
    I suppose that’s the best idea, I’ve been skimming through some and I’m already at Season 4 with knowing everything he’s been teaching so far. Makes me a bit sad, but hopefully I can learn something through the whole package. =) And I meant the irregular adjectives and all the forms, and what not. Ahaha, sorry =P

    @Climmik
    It is a bit annoying, but I guess it’s what supposed to be done.
    No, I used TextFugu when I first bought it all those years ago but just died out and ran out of motivation. I used it off and on for some years, and now I’m back again, ahaha.

    @Michael
    Oooh, is that so? I did download the Ultimate decks and they are a bit challenging, which is fantastic. But since it’s just cards, it’s kind of hard to memorize them. I was hoping I could learn something more complex in the seasons… Do you know if Koichi will eventually teach for intermediate+? Thank you =)

    koichi is working on a project for intermediate. It’s called etoeto. It’s still only in Alpha, and it’s not really lessons as you know them from TF or any other grammarbook. It texts written and recorded by native speakers with translations¨you can study.
    If you joined TF before June 10, 2013, you can get free access. Check out the link below and find out if it something for you.

    If you’re looking for a premade vocab anki deck, I personally find the optimized 6k deck much better.

    https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/702754122

    The cards have the words themselves and an example sentence plus audio for both.
    Its arranged in a way that takes account of frequency as well as so as to gradually introduce new words (So that in the example sentence you understand eveyrthing but the new word for that card)

    I would download the audio for 0-6k only for now, as its massive in size. You can decide if you want the 6k-10k later.
    Do reset the deck first before you start using it.

    “2) After downloading the database entires appear in random order.
    I recommend restoring the order by doing the following procedure:
    For Windows:
    - Select “core/2k/10k Futher Optimized PIC/SOUND” deck
    - Click on the “Browse” button
    - Clicn on the “Current Deck”
    - Select all entries by pressing Ctrl-A
    - Click on Edit->Reposition->OK
    That procedure should work as well on Linux and Mac. There is currently no way to do it on mobile devices.”

    @Jill: He’s planning intermediate stuff for the future but that could be another year or more away (it’s been in the works for much longer than that), so don’t hold your breath.

    @Strangeluv: There’s Core… 10k?! Since when? I thought there was only 6k :S
    At the top of that page it says there’s another 15k cards on top of that, so really it’s Core 25k, which is insane – if you’ve “learned” 10k words and you *still* need to use flash cards to learn new ones, you’re doing something wrong. I’ve been doing Core 6k for way too long and I’m at around 4,500 cards in, but I’m getting so tired of it and seeing such little return that I’m considering packing it in during the summer (or at least, dropping all my current cards then blitzing through the last 1500 in a week or two, not caring if I do the reviews every day, just to get some level of exposure to all the words). I find I remember words much better if I see them while reading other stuff rather than just in the isolated context of Anki.

    Yeah I agree it’s silly. Im still very much near the beginning so I find they do help. If Im done with 6k (when that ever happen) Ill just take native material (hopefully Ill be at that level then) and make my own cards if necessary.

    It does help the listening comprehension though, hearing the sentences over and over again, I think. Much better than the TF deck where you have just the word by itself.
