So, I’m on a ferry from Finland to Sweden, and I accidentally wake up 2 hours before we dock at 6am, instead of 1 hour before. What to do with the extra time? Japanese, of course! Found a discussion on finding a better “frequency of kanji” list than the newspaper ones floating around, and they decided to use the JP wiki, taking out all of the wiki utility parts. The results are posted here (which can be downloaded as Excel/pdf/etc), with total # of hits, % of the total, and even the Heisig frame number. I’m still going to finish all of RTK, of course, but it’s comforting to know that, after 1045 kanji, I now know the #1 character on the list.
